Phuket weather July 2014 - 1st to 13th

Two weeks full of events

Welcome in July, normally weather in Phuket in July isn't so bad. Same rain for sure, it is normal during Summer. But not strong wind and big waves.

Here can compare with July 2013

The first two weeks of July saw mainly rain and very strong wind, the situation was affected by Typhoon Neoguri that formed in the China Sea off shore in Philippines and then directed to Japan.

Its was a strong and big event that affected also the weather here in Phuket. So we started with rain on the 1st July.

This day also marked the begin of Ramadan for Muslim people, fasting now all day for one month, Big meals and a lot of food going at night among the Muslim communities in Phuket.

Then from 2nd to 5th July weather in Phuket has been quiet good, with sunshine, still strong wind and offshore waves were between two and three meters.  During these days we had an important news in Phuket. All chairs and small business were removed from Patong beach. This action on line with new national laws aimed to put order on the beaches. now they are a bit less comfortable but surely back to their original beauty. More space, less noise and rubbish.

On 11th July another important event happen, it was Khao Pansa day. This opens the Buddhist lent period. Was public holidays and a lot of celebration were made all over Thailand. In Kathu the 6th cultural street festival took off, a real success. Also very lucky as from 11th to 13th rain was rare over Kathu and a lot of people could enjoy this event.

The Cultural street at Kathu is one of that things to not miss when thinking what to do in Phuket during a rain or cloudy day.  A lot of food sold on the street, can see some of Phuket's culture and history and enjoy a great shopping at very local market.

I believe that weather in Phuket in June 2014 has been normal, strong wind with big waves, some short but powerful rainstorm alternated to good sunny days. June is one of best time in Phuket for those like surfing, however this nice open air activity need the perfect combination between wind and tides. If like to surf in Phuket best moment is during the incoming high tide. Combined with the big swells from off shore make the condition perfect to enjoy surfing. Mots famous beaches in Phuket among surfers lovers are Kata Beach and Kalim beach.

Don't forget while surfing in Phuket that sea can be very dangerous during summer monsoon, rip currents in Phuket between end of May and begin of October make difficult to swim and every year the sea claims few life.
Phuket rip currents warning sign
Swim in the area between two red and yellow flags

On all most important beaches there are signs displaying information about the Phuket west coats rip currents. How to deal with them and where is possible to swim. Also on all major beaches red flags are displayed.

What does mean red flag on the beach?

That it is dangerous to go in the water, even in shallow water, as the rip current is strong can knock a person down and drag the person in deep water.

However can still enjoy the beaches, just be careful and follow the signs. Best thing during summer is to book  hotels with nice pool settings.

If like to compare June 2014 with Phuket weather in June 2013, just follow the link to our weather reports

Now we are looking forward to July weather when in Phuket is normally good with weak wind, almost flat sea and not much rain.

Phuket weather June 2014 from 11th to 20th

As was predicted from all forecast strong wind and rain hit Phuket and the Andaman cost last week end. Waves were up to three meters.

The combination of strong winds and high tide during full moon, made the waves very high and strong. With some bad consequence for the shore line. We stared second part of June with great weather.

Now situation is much better and waves are down to normal level for the season. In about ten days we should go in the normal calm and nice weather that July offers.

Strong wind then kept blowing during the whole week, specially during the night. still can enjoy a lot of sun during the day. Now it is important to keep attention while swimming from shore. It is time again for rip currents. This situation will stay until October when wind direction will change.

Swimming from Phuket west coast beaches are dangerous during summer, so follow the signs, don't go in the water when red flags are showed and follwo the indication from the beach guards and locals.

Not many people know that the Gulf of Thailand and Koh Samui have opposite weather pattern so now there is time for flat sea, and sunshine. Thailand it is really a year round tourist place, just need to now where and when.

Phuket Weather in May 2014 from 15th to 31st

During second half of May weather was as expected with some heavy rain storm. Still many good sunny days. What is important that wind is weak resulting is almost flat sea.

The Marine parks are now closed as for every year to let nature rest from tourist and divers and for safety as waves in open sea can be high as three meters as soon wind will blow.

So we passed from rain and storms as the picture here below takes from our new office building in Kathu

As said Marine National Park on Andaman Coast of Thailand are now closed. This is normal and every year on 15th May the official closure is announced. Why the Marine park in Thailand close? First of all weather conditions, in Similan Islands and south of Lanta at hin Deng and Hin Muang the sea conditions can rapidly change. Won't be so nice to be outside the sea with two or three meters waves and may have to stay sheltered fro few days.

Second to allow the beautiful nature there to take a rest from torus, diving and all traffic generated by tourist activities.

They will re open on 15th October or soon after when weather conditions will become more stable with the Winter Monsoon

See you again in October

Phuket weather in May 2014 from 1st to 14th

It is time again for South west Monsoon, but first of all see what happen during last part of April.

April was surely hot and dry only few thunderstorms and some rain but really not enough to relief from hot temperature and drought. Specialist s said was the driest season in Phuket since 30 years.

Consider that since end of November didn't rain at all. We have enjoyed cool and dry air up to end of March. But as been more windy then normal during the North East Monsoon season.

So we leave behind the flat sea on Phuket West Coast, as the picture below of Laem Singh Beach

Phuket beaches - Laem Singh Beach
Laem Singh Beach in Phuket

And we came into May with more rainfalls and thunderstorms. During first week they were locally  without wind and the sea was flat during. At least the rain during the night helped to cool the temperature but humidity increased.

Once humidity increases we feel that air is hooter and this was the situation during first week of May, no wind, very hot, best stay out at sea and enjoy the evening breeze on boat.

On the 10th of May the situation changed with first storm coming from west bringing heavy rain and strong wind during the storm. This means that the South West monsoon as kicked in and for few days we will have sunshine alternate to rain and wind. The Sea on West coast will be choppy all day long.

Can compare with last year situation and have a better idea about weather in Phuket during May so will make easier to plan your holidays.

Time again for Rafting, tubing, enjoy waterfalls and rivers that slowly start to fill in.

May is also a month with a lot of Public holidays, the labor day on 1st of May. Then we had Thailand Coronation day on 5th May. soon followed by the Royal Ploughing Ceremony day on the 9th and close with one of most important religious holidays the Visaka Bucha Day on the 13th of May.

The Visaka Bucha Day falls on 6th Lunar month full Moon and Buddhist celebrate three important milestones in the life of Lord Buddha; birth, enlightenment and death.

Phuket Weather Update 17th March / 23rd March 2014

The weather in Phuket at the moment in not very changeable, in fact I don’t think it has changed that much in the last three months. It has gotten a little hotter each week yes, it has rained only once in that time.

Who can complain about that, this is the high season here on the Andaman Coast, and so far, it has been an excellent season, with more and more tourist than ever before coming for the Thai weather, while they escape their own winter blues.

Unfortunately nothing last forever and the weather will soon change accordingly. Next month sees the start of the Thai New Year Festival, otherwise known as Songkran, and for those that have witnessed this quite crazy celebration will agree that how much fun it can be.

The Songkran festival is celebrated on the 13th until 15th of April (dates vary very slightly in different provinces of the country) in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day and is the start of the much wetter monsoon season. Please do not think that it rains all the time after this date, as it does not. Phuket is still a perfect destination for your holidays any time of year.

Phuket Weather Up Date

Phuket Weather Update 2nd March/ 8th March 2014

Phuket is a fantastic Island, whether you live here or come on holiday, it is fun in the sun. There is no doubt about that. Here is a great bit of news that involves the children of Phuket's close town Krabi.

PHUKET: ABC Charity, a global art project of kids helping kids, has continued its journey around the world. They are creating the world’s first ever “human alphabet” – each letter made up of 500 children, in 26 different countries – ABC charity does not only help create fantastic memories for children, it will also raise money for a good cause.

Krabi Town Mayor Kiratisak Phukaoluan also supported the project and welcomed ABC Charity to both Krabi and Thailand.

The letter “G” took place in Krabi Thursday, February 13 with 500 children from Klong Ji Lad School taking part. The children had an amazing time and the day was filled with smiles and laughter. The event included music and food, as well as an inspirational speech by ABC Charity founders Ashley Cooper and Filip Cederholm, who reinforced their motto, “Together we can make a difference.”

ABC Charity is currently working its way around the globe creating one letter per country from A to Z. When the alphabet is complete, the letters will be sold as limited edition photo art. The idea is that companies and individuals will buy their name and 100 per cent of the profit will go back to local charities in the participating countries. Behind the project is Canadian Ashley Cooper and Swede Filip Cederholm, who gave up their previous lives to fulfill their dream; doing what they love, while inspiring kids and raising money for charity.

Ashley Cooper and Filip Cederholm were excited about being in Thailand, as Ashley puts it, “I had visited Thailand eight-years ago and knew it was somewhere we had to include in our journey. Not only is it a spectacular location for the letter “G”, the people of Thailand and Krabi in particular have been so kind and welcoming.

“We have had great support from the Mayor of Krabi Mr Keratisuk and his staff, as well as the Krabi Tourism Authority and Klong Ji Lad School. Mr Saratt Kyokong, the owner of the land, has not only given us permission to use the property, he even helped us arrange a crane to take the picture. We have also received great support from the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok. It is because of people like this that we have been able to continue our journey around the world.”

“Once the alphabet is complete we will tour around the world with the exhibition and look forward to coming back to display the letters, both in Krabi and around Thailand” added Ashley

Here is two great days you can find on Phuket:

Phuket Wake Park is located in the centre of the Phuket Island, in the beautiful district of Kathu, which is very close to Patong and Kamala. In fact, it is only 20 minutes or so from most of the main tourist resorts on the island. Also it is very conveniently located to Phuket international airport, which is only 30 minute away depending on traffic…

Phuket Fishing Park is Phuket’s best and incidentally only freshwater Monster Fishing Lake! We have over 12 different species from Thailand, America and many other parts of the world. Our fish are exotic monsters; fishing is popular in Thailand…
