Phuket Charter Boats

Are you interested in going for a pleasure cruise or a snorkelling or diving trip but want to avoid crowded boats and reefs, well there is an answer, charter your own boat and set your own itinerary.
Here at Easy Day Thailand we have a whole range of boats to suit different size groups with different comfort levels.

You want a fun day out hopping from island to island, the luxury day cruiser Cherry Pie is ideal for a small family or group of friends to tour Phang Nga bay or Island hop along the coast of Phuket, for a larger group of up to 8 people we have the Tarn Tawan a 47 ft Sport Cruiser which can accommodate a small group for overnight trips as well as day tours.

Tarn Tawan - a Riviera 430 Sports Cruiser available for charters in Phuket
Tarn Tawan

For an adrenaline fuelled day you could spend the day hopping between the islands on Phang Nga Bay in The Dolphin – a high speed RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat), in effect this is a giant jet ski for up to 10 people with an expert captain at the helm – all the thrills of high speed turns and wave hopping with the comfort blanket of experience and expertise.

Slow but spacious and comfortable the Sai Mai is perfect for sightseeing, snorkelling or diving trips for single days or an overnight trip. For longer trips she sleeps 6 people in comfortable en-suite cabins, with plenty of high quality Thai and western food coming from our compact kitchen thanks to the skills of our super cook. A fantastic and different way to see sights such as Phi Phi's Maya bay – about the only way you'll get to see the bay without row upon row of speedboats parked on the beach.

Having a Party? How about a mobile party venue, the catamaran Shangani happily accommodates up to 25 people or for a bigger celebration the Schooner Jabu will entertain 50 people in luxury cruising the islands as you celebrate your special occasion.

Interested in a Fishing charter? We have a specialist game fishing and trolling boat available with a highly experienced crew, only a few members of your family are interested in fishing, no problem the boat also doubles as a snorkelling boat, come into the islands from the fishing grounds, moor up on one of the buoys close to the reef and have a relaxing lunch interspersed with snorkelling or swimming adventures.

Interested in a charter but not sure what type of boat to choose, we're happy to help, let us know what you want to do and we'll marry your needs to the boats and present you with options

Phuket Weather 26 June 2013

A calm day with sunshine and some clouds, no wind and overall all normal situation for the incoming month of July. Late afternoon saw some clouds but no rain all day, now without wind will feel more the heat and humidity.

Wind is down since few three days now so waves are very small and gently splash on the beach during low tide at sunset. So everyone take a moment to relax and enjoy the view.

If you are in Patong and like to see some local life then at sunset go to Loma Park where many people like to chill out , have a light dinner and children play at the park.

Al's Laemson Resort Koh Samui - Inspection Report

I stayed at Al's Laemson resort in June 2013 as part of our on going process to check the standard of the hotels that we offer. To be honest, I didn't warm to this resort. That's partly because I was staying  there by myself and the resort was virtually empty of other guests. Al's Laemson is a resort more suited to couples than solo travelers. This resort gets very good reviews on Trip Advisor.

Swimming Pool
Al's Laemson Resort swimming pool

Al's Laemson has a good swimming pool and a nice spacious setting that winds down to the beach. The beach restaurant is cool and fresh. The design of the rooms seemed somewhat clinical to me and the layout of the stand alone bungalows was a bit odd with the verandas all facing in towards each other. Inside the rooms the facilities were fine, everything was spotlessly clean and the rooms are certainly big. The veranda of my bungalow was huge but as it got the sun nearly all day long was usually too hot to sit out on. I personally didn't like the styling of the bungalows, others may like the minimalist style.

Al's Laemson Resort is located in the north east of Koh Samui. It's actually on the north part of Chaweng Beach but it feels like a different place altogether. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk into Chaweng centre, or a free shuttle is available several times per day. It's a picturesque little bay that is nice to stroll on but it's too shallow for swimming.

Phuket Weather 25 June 2013

A great for surfing at Kata Beach specially when is high tide, during this week also the biggest full moon of the year, is making waves perfects.

The high tide is at the moment around Noon but will move day by day to the afternoon, by end of the months tide will be less high as we will be in half moon.

With this Moon we also saw change in weather conditions and now wind is very weak and sky is clear, the sea will calm down taking us into July that normally for Phuket is a very good month with conditions close to those in the winter, with little rain and flat sea.

Great for diving with clear water, less divers and can enjoy special offers from hotels, two years ago in July we have spotted often Whale Sharks between Phuket and Phi Phi island.

Ban Raya meeting point - how to get there

If you are staying at Ban Raya Resort or going on our very popular Premium Racha Island Tour you will probably be picked up from your Phuket hotel and transferred to Chalong Bay where the transfer speedboat will be waiting for you at the beach.

If you have your own transport however you will need to meet your guide at the meeting point. This is how to get there.

Coming from Phuket Town on Chao Fah East Road:

Turn left off Chao Fah East Road at Soi Sukee. The turning is opposite a TMB Bank. There is a sign for the Captain Hook Bar.

Follow the road until almost the end. You will pass Agli Amici pizza restaurant on your left then you'll see a big sign for Rak Talay Travel and a smaller sign for Ban Raya meeting point. (Note that the signs are new and do not appear on Google Street view).

Ban Raya day trip meeting point with car parking available

Coming from Chalong Circle:

Take the road from Chalong circle (that's Chalong roundabout for native English speakers and Hayaek Chalong in Thai) to the pier. It is sign posted Chalong Tourist pier. From Rawai Beach direction it's the fourth exit, from Kata direction it's the third exit and from Chao Fah West road it's the second exit.

Follow the road almost to the end. You'll pass a few dive shops and bars. Turn left at the car park (just after the 7Eleven on your left and Pier 42 hotel on the right). If you reach Kaneang@pier restaurant you've gone a bit too far. If you feel water around your feet you have driven into the sea ;)

Follow the road that bears right then left until you are driving along the promenade. Pass the Tamarind bar, then Jimmy's lighthouse restaurant on your left. Turn left at the end of the road and you will see the Suda restaurant and meeting point ahead of you.

Congratulations you have reached your destination. Park your car, enjoy the trip to Raya Island :)

Al's Resort Koh Samui Inspection Report

I stayed at Al's Resort in the first week of June 2013 as part of a Koh Samui hotels inspection trip. My opinion of the resort is a bit mixed and whether it's suitable for you will depend on what part of Koh Samui you want to stay in. Basically it's all about location, location, location.

Al's Resort Koh Samui
Al's Resort Courtyard

For many people, the best thing about Al's Resort will be that it's in the centre of Chaweng, right on the beach and close to the best bars and restaurants. If you want to be near to the action then this resort will suit you. It's a short stumble along the beach to get back to your room if you've spent all night at the Ark bar. It's also conveniently close to Top's supermarket, very handy for stocking up on bits and pieces.

Chaweng Beach Koh Samui
Chaweng Beach June 2013

The resort itself is only ok, nothing fancy. I can imagine that it was nice when it was newly built but like a lot of resorts that I've seen in this Chaweng beach section of Samui it looks slightly dated, particularly the old fitted furniture and the bathrooms. I stayed in one of the older Deluxe Garden rooms and in fairness I was there just before high season started. I did see several men busy with paint brushes giving the place a spruce up.

For the location and the price it's hard to complain about Al's Resort though. It's what you get in this part of Chaweng beach for around US$100 per night. If you want to be slap bang on Koh Samui's most popular beach and only pay 3,000-4,000 baht per night for a room you have to compromise a bit. (If you are happy to be a little out from the centre of Chaweng we can recommend other resorts that offer you more for your baht).

Al's Resort Swimming Pool
Al's Resort Swimming pool

Al's Resort Swimming Pool
Al's Resort Restaurant

The resort's beach side swimming pool looked ok although I never saw anyone in it, the sea was flat and calm and was much more inviting to me. The resort restaurant is an ugly concrete and glass building designed to look like a boat's hull, they should really lose it altogether and just build a nice breezy beach restaurant out of bamboo. Breakfast was the usual buffet style, neither good nor bad but plenty of it. WIFI was available at the resort but there was an extra charge. I always think that's a bit mean but there are free internet terminals for guest use in reception. The hotel staff seemed friendly and they gave me a free lift to my next resort when I checked out.

Al's Resort Deluxe Room
Deluxe Room

We inspect the resorts that we offer on a regular basis to verify that they are up to standard. So to summarize,  I'm happy to keep Al's Resort on our list of Easy Day Selected Resorts because of the location which will be ideal for some people. If you want to be in the heart of Chaweng then for the money Al's Resort is a decent choice. If you prefer to stay a bit further out of Chaweng then we can recommend other resorts that offer better rooms at a similar price.

Reviews - Erin M.

Erin & Stephen enjoyed their Racha Yai Island Day Trip and some private hotel transfers:

"Hi Francesco,

Thanks for organising everything for us for our recent trip, we loved the snorkelling and the transfers were very comfortable! it rained a bit too much though!! haha

As previously mentioned, we are getting married in Thailand next yr, in Khao Lak, and will be putting our invites together shortly to send out to our guests.

I have been really happy with the service you have provided me with, and was wondering if you would offer a competitive rate for transfers so that I can recommend your company on my wedding invites?

Return trips and 1-way from Airport - Khao Lak.

I am expecting 50-60 people to attend, and if you were to offer the most competitive price, I would only recommend your company.

Look forward to hearing back from you Francesco :)"

Phuketweather 23 June 2013

Today the update is directly from the sea, all morning blue sky and just a breeze, however on the way to Racha Yai big swell from south west. Sea was flat around the islands south of Phuket.

On the way to Racha Yai this morning

At Racha Yai Island great weather and if you like to enjoy beach and sea then the best is book few nights on this beautiful islands, just 15 miles south of Phuket. The island east side is sheltered from wind and waves making the place ideal for a relaxing holiday, no traffic and confusion.

Best way to enjoy the island is with at least an overnight stay, as between 10:00 and 14:30 a lot of day trippers are coming here to enjoy the beautiful sea, but then the island go back to quiet life as usual. Stay at Ban Raja Resort and Spa is surely best choice.

Phuket Weather 22 June 2013

Wind was down and sky clear, must say a wonderful day for those on holidays, waves also are calming down making pleasant to be on the sea too.

This morning went on top of one of Kathu Hills to see a beautiful area that nobody goes to visit, weather was so good that fruits from the many orchard there was put to dry next the small river.

Here a Monk used to leave and meditate, a place peaceful and quiet.

This is also the place where the Hanuman has is lair, this is one of best attraction during Summer, when the beach offer less to do, a great experience  flying from tree to tree in a untouched rain forest. You want believe that such a natural paradise is just ten minutes from Patong Beach one of world most famous places for nightlife and tourism.

Phuket Weather 21 June 2013

Today is Summer Solstice and we couldn't ask for a better day, wind still blowing but much
less then during past few days, waves less strong and lower and Sun was shining all day.

So week end should be good with less wind, may be some rain will then fall as clouds will able to form again in the sky.

Take it easy and enjoy anything like to do, from tours to activities, after few days rain rivers are now perfect to enjoy a day for tubing or Rafting.

Varinda Garden Resort Koh Samui Inspection Report

I stayed at the Varinda Garden Resort in early June 2013. This small Thai family owned and run resort is located on the hillside at the southern end of Lamai beach. It's about two minutes walk from the beach and from Lamai centre where bars, restaurants and shops can be found.

I arrived in the evening as the sun was setting and immediately liked the place. The friendly greeting from the owner and the secret garden setting, full of quirky ornaments, provided a relaxed and welcoming vibe. There is nothing formulaic about Varinda resort, it hasn't been designed by numbers, it feels like it's been grown with love. Every room is unique, each painted multiple different colours that blend with the natural setting. The style will appeal to old hippies, wannabe eco warriors or anyone else who hates the idea of staying in just another identikit resort.

Varinda Garden Resort Lamai Beach Koh Samui
The gardens are full of quirky ornaments

My room was a Deluxe double room with separate living room and bedroom, both of which had large teak doors opening onto the balcony. It had a very nice view of Lamai bay which had me asking myself, why is this resort called Varinda Garden Resort and not Varinda Lovely Sea View Resort. I later realised that my room (number 39 if you want to request it) is the only one with a seaview, all the others are in a garden setting.

Varinda Garden Resort Lamai Beach Koh Samui
Each room is individually styled

The best sea view is actually from the resort restaurant, a cool and breezy room with a rustic ambiance. Breakfast was included in the room price and if I hadn't been so busy doing all kinds adventurous stuff on  Samui day tours which picked me up at the crack of dawn each day I could have happily whiled away an hour there over coffee and croissants. Although the menu sounded delicious I never did eat dinner at the resort, choosing instead to eat in Lamai centre which has plenty of local eateries to choose from.

The swimming pool also overlooks Lamai bay. It's a small pool but does have a slide which you might fancy trying after a few cocktails.

Varinda Garden Resort Lamai Beach Koh Samui
Sea view swimming pool

The resort location will not suit everyone because it's not on the beach front and access to the beach, as well local restaurants and bars, is down some rather rickety steps. It's not ideal for pensioners with dodgy hips, it's certainly not wheelchair friendly.

In summary, the Varinda Garden resort is an idiosyncratic resort. Not luxurious and not directly on the beach but full of unique character run by a charming local family who will make you feel very welcome. We are  happy to offer it as one of our Easy Day Thailand selected resorts.

Phuket weather 20 June 2013

A real sunny day today nice and warm, only problem is still the strong wind that should go for another two days.
Karon Beach - Phuket
Karon Beach view on 20 June 2013

However until wind blows clouds pass quickly over, so as soon wind drops we can expect bit more rain then good weather as usual in July. Don't forget what the red flag means, it is dangerous swim in the sea because of rip currents

Phuket weather 19 June 2013

Wind is even stronger today so many boats have to cancel their scheduled trips, but overall weather was good almost all day sun was out.

In the picture can see a lot of cables that are normal part of the view, as telephone lines, internet and cable TV are not buried but suspended to high posts.

Took a moment to get on top the hill between Kathu and Patong, when arriving from airport and staying in Patong need to go over the steep hill, and on top everyone honk in sign of respect for the Buddha in the temple on top the hill and someone says for good luck.

A small but interesting place to go if you are in Patong, just be careful the traffic. There are many other temples and shrines around the island and each one is different. Some thing special to do until the sea calms down.

Phuket weather 18 June 2013

During last night and all day a very strong wind that blown almost all clouds from sky and kept rain away. This is typical for June, then we should see less wind and rain during July.

During this week the weather should be better starting from 23 June however isn't easy to make forecast and so isn't easy trust them, today should have been a day full of rain, but he wasn't and just few drops in the evening.

Just at sunset the wind slowed down so clouds piled again on Phuket hills.
We will see tomorrow morning what will be next day.

Khao Lak Countryside Resort and Spa Inspection Report

We went to visit the Khao Lak Countryside Resort and Spa at end of March 2013, to see if the resort could be part of our selection for accommodation in Khao Lak for our packages.

Firstly it  was good to see that despite the name the resort is just three minutes walking to Khao Lak Beach. Probably the owner gave this name as the resort is built in a beautiful garden with high trees and a huge garden divides the rooms making it perfect for privacy and giving and overall atmosphere of peace and relaxation.

Soon you will find yourself comfortable here with an authentic Thai atmosphere and nice staff ready to help and always smiling, simple rooms with a lot of space and great privacy.
The Khao Lak Countryside Resort is located in Soi Nangthong in Khao Lak , that is the road that goes to the main beach, just before the Khao Lak Sea view Resort.
Khao Lak Countryside Resort and Spa
The garden - bungalows are built around it

We stayed in a Garden Villa with balcony and Bali style shower, a lot of space so the third bed could fit in the room and still leave space to walk and enjoy the balcony. The room has all amenities and also now the resort offers unlimited free wi-fi. Nice Toilet with the open air (Bali style) shower. Easy to get to the pool and the restaurant. Good furniture and bedding,, the third bed is a folding kind and on that the mattress wasn't the best. The toilet looks a bit empty.
Khao Lak Countryside Resort and Spa - garden villa

Overall the resort is very quiet and clean, surely a big tropical garden need a lot of maintenance but every thing was in order, the pool is nice and big, the only negative is that there was a lot of chlorine in the water, so after a while the eyes began to burn.
Khao Lak Countryside Resort and Spa
The pool

Nice breakfast, buffet style, served at the open air restaurant where there was a nice family atmosphere with regular customers saying hello to staff.

Everything was positive so we decided to add the resort and offer packages to our customers that like to have a simple and authentic Thai style resort just few meters away from the beautiful Khao Lak Beach.

Phuket weather 17 June 2013

Finally after more than a week raining we had a nice sunny morning and conditions stayed at this all day, apart some isolated shower.

And the Go Kart speedway was already full of pilots racing to see who will be the best. As the beach is still "out of service", to make the sky clouds free need a strong wind and that happened last night, as result we have big waves and bad sea conditions. This should blow for a couple of days then we should have few days we cover sky but only light rain.

Sunday, June 16, 2013

Phuket weather 15 and 16 June 2013

This week end still rain and thunderstorms, the sky was all day full of clouds on Saturday, While Sunday morning a shy sun managed to pass through giving few hours of good weather. And many people where soon on the beach to enjoy it.

However remember that red flags this time the year means danger to swim, just enjoy to play with the big waves that tide and wind make smashing to the shore.

Phuket weather 14 June 2013

The picture gives the idea more then many words, forecast say another three days at least, then wind should get stronger and blow the clouds away.

The rivers and streams are also growing can compare with same picture taken just ten days ago,

For better conditions then alternative is the Gulf of Thailand where Koh Samui, Koh Pangan and Koh Tao are located that offer only bit of rain, can get from Phuket to Samui or Koh Tao just in one day. The picture here below has been taken in Ang Thong National park on 8 June 2013.  At the moment Samui sky is also covered but sea is calm and doesn't rain.

Phuket Weather 13 June 2013

Today we haven't see the Sun all day, a lot of rain and wind, can't say is a good day. however for those on holidays what can do, just try to get the best things, form shopping to spas.

The waterworks reservoir is now filling up quickly with three days of rain and heavy rain. This will make sure next winter Phuket won't be short of water.

For shopping the biggest place is Central Festival easy to find, just enough to ask a taxi to get there, if you are driving form any beach south of Phuket (Kata, Karon, Nai harn, Rawai) follow the direction to airport, they will bring you to Central festival junction and can't miss it really.

From Patong go over the hill to Kathu, then at Caltex Station turn right and follow the road for about 5 Km, you will have Central festival on your left side just before the junction where they are building the underpass.

Koh Tao Weather from 5 to 7 June 2013

This time a short report from Koh Tao the small island in the Gulf of Thailand, famous among those like to get certified as a new diver and for being best snorkeling destination in Thailand.

Koh Tao Thailand - Sairee Beach
Sairee Beach at Koh Tao
Koh Tao Thailand - Tanote Ba
Tanote Bay Koh Tao Thailand

During June and all through Summer the Gulf of Thailand offers very good condition with flat sea, sun shine and only few probability of rain. While the Andaman Coast on West side is exposed to South West monsoon that carry in may and June heavy rain, then normally quiet and good condition in July, August variable.

September and October are the same in both sides normally no wind but a lot of rain. When Monsoon change from North East then winter is coming and West Coast seas are flat, just few thunderstorm in November and December then sunshine and cool air (still between 24 and 27 Celsius) from January to April. At same time the Gulf of Thailand is exposed to strong wind and as result sea is rough with big waves. Rain can be heavy from October to December to then slow down from January to April.
Koh Tao Thailand - Ao Leuk Bay koh Tao

Koh Tao weather was good with flat see perfect to enjoy snorkeling, some short rain fall during the night then hot and clear sky,

Visibility underwater in Koh Tao during Summer is good as on west Coast less plankton and less suspension making scuba diving very pleasant.

Phuket weather 12 June 2013

Today more rain and strong wind with high waves and rough sea. However on Patong beach business is almost as normal, surely just few people but don't forget that temperature never drop so still between 27 and 29 Celsius, making a beach walking under a sky full of clouds even a nice thing to do.

After few days raining is time for one of best activities in Phuket and most preferred by women...shopping. As Phuket offer a lot for this from big mall to small street stalls.

One of most popular place is Junk Ceylon shopping center in Patong, here you can find international brands and a lot of local products, go down in the basement floor for Thai handcraft souvenirs.

Also best time to visit the week end market so won't be too hot and will take easy to walk and see all products and enjoy tasting Thai food and fruits.

Phuket Weather 11 June 2013

As foreseen another day of rain but a very good surprise in the morning no wind so sea condition were good, good reward for those decided anyway to do some water activities.

This morning Patong streets were flooded making morning traffic jammed, so should check tide tables if you are going, diving, out on a boat, like surfing and when like to park you car.

Floods can happen because of high tide combined with heavy rain falls, this morning between 6:30 and 8:30 was raining a lot and how can see from the tide table here below, taken from Royal Phuket Marina web site, tide was coming up reaching maximum level at 12:00. This situation make impossible for the water in the canal to flush into the sea.

Phuket weather 9 and 10 June 2013

This time made one report for two days, the reason is simply...it is really raining now. During last 48 hours a lot of rain and as consequence Patong roads were flooded, the small streams around the island suddenly got big and strong.
Wind is also strong and waves can be up to three meters, forecasts say that will stay as this for next four to five days.

What do not do in Phuket when is raining !

Don't ride motorbikes, save your money and don't rent bikes, drive a bike in Phuket isn't easy in normal conditions, when is time for heavy rain and wind it is very dangerous. So don't look for trouble and go around comfortably in a taxi.

Don't walk bare feet when roads are flooded, you will save your flip flops but won't see where you are walking with the risk to step on sharp objects, cut your feet and may get an infection.

Don't enter rooms and buildings where air con is running if you are completely wet to avoid to get sick and spend rest of the holidays in bed. Shirt and T-shirt are cheap and available every where, buy one to keep your self dry. At any 7/11 and Family Mart can buy rain ponchos for few Bahts and keep yourself dry.

Don't keep your electronics in the pockets without waterproof protection, rain can be very strong and "flood' your pockets and bag too. Best solution is a dry bag, small made in rubber and silicon they keep dry all your staff...just don't put water in :-).

Don't play with waves, one more time we like to remind everyone that swim in the sea and play with waves on Phuket West coats during summer is dangerous because of strong rip current.
