Im writing to you guys because we used you guys inOctober and loved loved your service !!!!!!! You definitely made our tripamazing !!! and your staff what can I say they were lovely !!!!!

I want to go back to Thailand in April Next year with agroup of about 10 of us! And we were wanting to find a Villa or a house or something you could recommend for all of us to stay in, with a private pool kitchen etc.Something in Patong, we are all in our 20’s and going there to celebrate My Birthday.

Hi All

Just want to say thanks for the fantastic service that my family and I received on our recent trip to Thailand!

Our transfers to and from the airport were on time and the gentleman that picked us up gave us a great insight into some of the attractions to see and do as well as pointing out various towns and scenery.

Oak was great with the kids and we all had a few laughs together.

Just a very brief note of thanks for the fantastic activities you organized for us during our recent trip to Thailand. The four day trips you put together where mind blowing.

Our Southern Phuket sightseeing trip (Elephant Trek, Kho Saam Haad, Cobra / Monkey shows, Wat Chalong, seafood lunch at Mudong Mueang, Big Buddha and Phromthep Cape) was a brilliant day and gave us all a really great insight into Phuket and it's very special culture.

The day of diving and snorkeling around Koh Racha Yai was a fantastic day with the added bonus of seeing several sea turtles during the dives. The dive masters and crew on the boat were fantastic.

Our Phang Nga Bay tour was sensational. From pick up at our hotel through to drop off we were entertained by your guide and driver with their enthusiasm and knowledge. The Long tail ride, visits to Koh Khao Phing Kan (James Bond Island), the Sea caves, Koh Panyee floating village, Koh Panak Serpent cave, lunch at Samchong Seafood Restaurant and Wat Sawan Kuha Temple (Reclining Buddha) was a very special day.

Finally the Speed boat cruise to Phi Phi Island (Maya Bay, Viking Caves, Monkey Beach, Koh Phi Phi & Khai Nok Island) was a great day as well. The scenery is breath taking (as were the crowds). We would recommend however that a more private alternative with a longer stay on Phi Phi Don might be an alternative to the tour we took.

We must also commend all of your guides and drivers for the polite, courteous, friendly & welcoming way in which they entertained, educated and informed us of the cultural significance and history of the various sites we visited. You have a fantastic staff working for you who clearly know their business and Island.

Finally thank you for coming out on your family day to make our holiday so very special. We appreciate all of the effort you put into making our trip so very memorable.

Since returning to Australia I have recommended you to several friends and colleagues who are venturing over to Thailand / Phuket over the next 12 months so hopefully they will give you a call.

"It was my first time visiting Phuket from 15-17 August 2011. Traveling is my hobby and I am usually do it alone since my family are working in Jakarta, Indonesia. Knowing that it may complicated travel alone to Phuket at that time, I browsed internet and found EasyDayThailand can be solution for that. I contact Diego via Skype and he arranged in the best way so that I can travel from one place to another easily.

Monday, 15 August 2011:

From Bangkok I took early morning flight to Phuket. After arrived, the driver was ready picking me up from Airport. From there we went to Chalong Temple to see the most famous temple in phuket

After that I visited Big Buddha as one of the island's most important and revered landmarks

I continued the journey to Promthep Cape as southernmost part of Phuket to see another view point of beautiful Phuket

From there, I checked in to Patong Beach Lodge Hotel, a budget class in strategic location and met Diego to clarify the final itinerary. Then I enjoyed sunbathing in Patong Beach by just walking 10 minutes from the hotel

Then I went back to hotel and spent my first amazing night by watching Phuket Fantasea as theme park with magic and cultural shows located in Kamala Beach. I got golden seat so that I can enjoy the best view from the show. It was amazing!

Tuesday, 15 August 2011:

On the second day, I spent almost one day in Phi – Phi island via group tour. We went there with speed boat from Chalong bay and took about one hour and 45 minutes to get to Phi Phi Island. First stop was to Maya bay then visited monkey. We had lunch at Phi Phi Don then one the way back to Phuket, we stopped at Koh Kai. I felt very happy during the journey with the groups so that I didn’t feel lonely J

On the second night, I watched Simon Cabaret which is quite near to hotel as a spectacular musical floor show performed by the world famous "ladyboys". It was great and funny performance. Four Thumbs Up!

Wednesday, 17 August 2011:

That was my last day in Phuket. But I enjoyed every single time especially on my first private trip to dream island, Phang Nga Bay. We dropped to Sam Chong pier where a local boat already waiting to take me to famous James Bond's island, Hong Island and other beautiful places around. The private guide was very nice and helpful. Fortunately we both like photography so we can discuss many things.

We back for lunch in Sam Chong Sea food where lunch has been organized for me. Seafood menu was really delicious so that I felt quite full. For the last shot, I visited the Sawan Kuha Temple as a cave temple with a large reclining Buddha statue inside.

From there, I dropped to airport to go back to Jakarta. It was pleasure for me having EasyDayThailand arranging this first trip

Hopefully I can come back to Phuket as soon as possible, since I haven’t explore the other island especially snorkeling in Racha Yai

We are back in Singapore few days back. We had great fun with Phi Phi Cruiser. The VIP lounge is cozy.
Nice view of the islands, Fun at snorkeling and Great lunch. The free time is kind of short though, just managed to roam around the beach and dip ourselves in the clear sea water for a short while. But, we still HAD FUN!!!

Phi Phi Overnight trip with MV Sai Mai

"Hi Paul,

I still owe you some pics of the whale shark. I will be sending them over later on today. Thanks, we all had an awesome trip!! The boat was great, the food was absolutely amazing and Andreas was a great dive master, all the staff were really friendly. The dives were challenging but amazing. It was a short trip, but def exceeded our expectations :) we cannot wait to come back and do another trip.
Seeing a whale shark so close and getting to interact with it was a once in a life time experience. I have to admit i was a bit scared but looking back it was amazing!

Thank you so much for all your help organising. We will def recommend you to any of our friends and hope to come back soon :)

I went to Luang Prabang last year - loved it. Very relaxing and great food. Hope you enjoyed it.

Oggi durante il primo giorno della minicrociera a Phi Phi abbiamo avuto un altro incredibile incontro con lo squalo balena. I sub sono risaliti dopo l'immersione dalla barca MV Sai Mai con le lacrime di gioia, raccontando di aver trascorso praticamente tutto il tempo alla profondità di 5 metri in compagnia del bestione di circa 4m di lunghezza. Tutto questo è avvenuto sul sito di immersioni Phuket Shark Point, tra le isole di Phuket e Phi Phi. La cosa bizzarra è che il simpatico pescione ha in seguito deciso di seguire letteralmente la barca per alcuni minuti nel tragitto verso Phi Phi.

Wat Chalong is Phuket’s most popular Buddhist temple and is the biggest of all Buddhist monasteries in Phuket. The architecture is typical for temples you find throughout Thailand. Two of the founders are the monks Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, who were well known for herbal medicine and took care of local villagers and negotiated for a settlement during a Chinese miners rebellion in the 1870's. Statues honoring them stand in the sermon hall (viharn).

Inaspettato incontro ravvicinato con ben DUE squali balena!

Oggi, durante una bella immersione come tante a Koh Doc Mai, piccola isola situata tra Phuket e Phi Phi Island io ed il resto del gruppo abbiamo assistito ad una specie di miracolo subacqueo.
Dopo circa 30-35 minuti di immersione stavamo gradualmente risalendo lungo la parete finchè, giunto alla profondità di 12 metri, ho sentito il sordo e ripetuto rumore metallico dello shaker di un'altra guida, una trentina di metri più avanti. A giudicare dalla frenesia con cui il collega si apprestava a richiamare l'attenzione ho capito che ci doveva essere qualcosa di inusuale nelle vicinanze, ma di certo non avrei mai pensato ad uno squalo balena! A questo punto io ed il resto del gruppo ci siamo staccati dalla parete per andare verso il blu, dove lentamente abbiamo visto un'ombra avvicinarsi e diventare sempre più grossa! Dopo qualche secondo, ancora incredulo e colto da un'emozione indescrivibile mi sono trovato di fronte a questo esemplare maschio di circa 9 metri di lunghezza. Dopo circa 30 secondi trascorsi a pinneggiare con forza per seguire il bestione, lui ha deciso di investigare un pò su noi piccoli sub e quindi ha iniziato a girarci intorno...pazzesco, ma ancor più pazzesco quando mi sono voltato e ho visto sopraggiungere un'altro esemplare, questa volta femmina, di circa 6 metri. Dopo essersi uniti hanno elegantemente volteggiato attorno a noi per qualche manciata di secondi ancora, per poi putroppo prendere la loro via e rapidamente scomparire nel blu. Ho perso la cognizione del tempo, ma sono stati minuti di pura emozione!
Questa magica Thailandia non finisce mai di stupire, sia sulla terra che nel mare, ma in questo caso...soprattutto nel mare!

Escursione “Island Safari – White Water Rafting”

Volendo trascorrere una giornata in modo alternativo ho deciso di partecipare a questa gita organizzata da Island Safari.

Come da appuntamento, il pulmino è passato a prendermi puntualmente alle 8.00 in ufficio

Dopo l'introduzione da parte della guida abbiamo proseguito da Phuket verso nord nella provincia di Phang Nga. Dopo un'ora e mezza di viaggio siamo finalmente arrivati a destinazione, percorrendo un'affascinante strada immersa in una giungla molto fitta e di un verde indescrivibile.

Giunti alla fine della strada asfaltata io e i miei compagni di viaggio siamo stati spostati su dei pick up, che ci hanno trasportato ancora per qualche minuto sullo sterrato fino alla zona della cascata. Una volta scesi dai veicoli e dopo aver camminato per un paio di minuti su un sentiero, eccoci arrivati: la cascata non è altissima, ma comunque molto carina andando a formare un piccolo lago in cui se le condizioni lo permettono è possibile fare il bagno.

Dopo circa 15 minuti trascorsi a fare foto e a socializzare con gli altri turisti siamo saliti nuovamente sui pick up per la prossima fermata poco più a valle dove siamo stati scaricati al centro rafting, che ospita anche il ristorante in cui più tardi abbiamo pranzato. Lo stabile si affaccia su di una pittoresca e affascinante diga-cascata. Qui abbiamo atteso per circa mezz'ora che lo staff preparasse i gommoni per il rafting, nel frattempo ci hanno lasciato a disposizione il bar per la colazione e gli armadietti per lasciare gli oggetti personali. Nell'attesa inoltre per coloro disposti a pagare un extra c'era la possibilità di "volare" appesi ad un cavo con l'adrenalinica "flying fox".

Dopo essere stati muniti di casco e giubbotto salvagente io e i miei due nuovi amici abruzzesi abbiamo finalmente preso un remo e siamo saliti sul gommone, accompagnati da due esperti rematori dello staff. Non so quanto tempo sia trascorso, ma sono stati 5 km di puro divertimento. La discesa in sé è carica d'azione e si è circondati da una natura mozzafiato, ma la cosa più divertente è stata la vera e propria guerra lanciando schizzi d'acqua contro la gente sugli altri gommoni usando i remi. Alla fine dei 5 km previsti siamo scesi dalle imbarcazioni e abbiamo trovato ad attenderci i soliti pick up, che ci hanno riportato al ristorante risparmiandoci una lunga camminata!

Quando siamo giunti al ristorante, alle 12.00 circa, l'abbondante pranzo a buffet incluso nel prezzo della gita era già pronto ad aspettarci. Vasta scelta di cibo Thai, buona qualità e bella musica di sottofondo che non guasta mai.

Alle 12.30 siamo stati richiamati dalla guida per spostarci verso la prossima destinazione, il campo di Island Safari, situato a circa 50 minuti di pulmino verso Phuket. Il campo è un vasto insieme di strutture ben camuffate nella giungla. Una volta arrivati, io e i miei compagni di escursione siamo stati divisi a seconda del tipo di pacchetto scelto. Come previsto sono stato accompagnato alle vasche della "fish spa" mentre altri sono saltati in groppa agli elefanti per una passeggiata nella giungla.

La fish spa è un tipico trattamento Thai, diciamo che si può definire come una pedicure naturale, immergendo i piedi in una vasca brulicante di pesciolini che amano mangiare la pelle secca e morta.

La sensazione è molto particolare, se si sopravvive ai primi secondi di solletico e ci si abitua diventa anche piacevole!

terminati i miei 15 minuti a farmi solleticare dai i pesci, ho atteso il resto del gruppo andato in elefante, giocando con una coppia di gibboni tanto teneri quanto monelli.

Una volta riunito con i miei compagni, a pochi passi dalla fish spa ci siamo accomodati per assistere all'affascinante show con degli elefanti addestrati a fare cose incredibili (uno ha addirittura scritto la parola "welcome" tenendo il pennello nella proboscide), e successivamente al simpaticissimo spettacolo con il macaco, allenato a raccogliere le noci di cocco dagli alberi.

Quando lo show è terminato, alcune persone pagando una cifra aggiuntiva hanno deciso di fare un giro in quad (ATV) nella giungla, mentre io e gli altri li abbiamo aspettati per circa 30 minuti. L'attesa però non è stata noiosa, infatti abbiamo assistito ad un'interessante dimostrazione di raccolta e lavorazione della gomma. Ho saputo infatti che le foreste di questa zona e della Thailandia in genere sono molto ricche di alberi da gomma, rendendone questa nazione il maggior esportatore al mondo.

Dopo tutto questo siamo infine ripartiti per tornare a Phuket, ognuno riportato al proprio hotel arrivando alle 17.00 circa.

Nel complesso posso dire di aver trascorso una giornata varia, divertente ed emozionante. L'organizzazione piuttosto buona ha permesso che tutto procedesse nel migliore dei modi e con i giusti tempi di attesa. Magari in futuro ripeterò questa escursione, scegliendo un pacchetto diverso e sicuramente estendendo il percorso del rafting!

Escursione Giornaliera "Phi Phi Cruiser VIP Tour"

Oggi ho provato questa escursione a Phi Phi Island, organizzata dalla compagnia Phi Phi Cruiser, scegliendo il pacchetto "VIP".

Il pulmino è venuto a prendermi puntuale in ufficio a Kathu alle 7.30, per il trasferimento al porto di Ratchada a Phuket Town, impiegando circa 40 minuti. Arrivati al molo ci siamo immediatamente imbarcati sul traghetto, una grande imbarcazione a tre piani e a prima vista in ottime condizioni.

Prima di salire il personale ha attaccato sulle magliette di ognuno degli adesivi di colore diverso, per differenziare le persone in base al tipo di pacchetto selezionato per la gita. Appena saliti a bordo la giovane hostess dedicata ai clienti VIP si è presentata con il nome di Chalee, e si è rivelata per tutto il tempo molto gentile e disponibile, parlando anche un ottimo inglese

Dopo avermi accompagnato nella cabina VIP al piano superiore e avermi fatto accomodare su un comodo sedile, Chalee mi ha servito la colazione con tè o caffè, brioche e biscotti.

La cabina è ampia, con aria condizionata, due televisori, 40 comodi posti a sedere e per i bambini il personale prepara dei palloncini a forma di animale.

C'era parecchia gente a bordo ma posto in abbondanza per tutti, oltre alla sala VIP infatti si trovano altre due cabine chiuse con moltissimi posti a sedere, e i ponti esterni con ulteriori sedie e la possibilità di prendere il sole oppure di accomodarsi all'ombra. Sul traghetto sono inoltre presenti un piccolo negozio con snack e generi vari, sei WC ed un bar, anche se con il pacchetto VIP le bibite sono incluse.

Partiti alle 8.45, siamo arrivati al parco nazionale dell'isola Phi Phi Leh dopo circa un'ora e 45 minuti e l'abbiamo lentamente circumnavigata per apprezzare e fotografare i panorami mozzafiato, con le imponenti scogliere di roccia calcarea e la vegetazione rigogliosa. Il capitano ha rallentato ulteriormente in prossimità di particolari punti d'interesse come Maya Bay (la baia resa famosa dal film "The Beach"), Lo Sama Bay, Phileh Bay e la grotta Viking Cave. Il tutto ha impiegato circa mezz'ora e successivamen abbiamo raggiunto il porto della vicina isola Phi Phi Don, l'unica abitata e sviluppata delle due, dove il traghetto ha attraccato.

Qui alle 11.00 ci siamo spostati su un'imbarcazione più piccola ormeggiata accanto, e siamo ripartiti per poi fermarci poco distante vicino alla barriera corallina all'imboccatura della baia.

Dopo essere stati gratuitamente forniti di maschera e boccaglio, e all'occorrenza di giubbotto salvagente, abbiamo avuto la possibilità di fare snorkeling. La cosa più particolare per chi sceglie il pacchetto VIP però è un'altra: viene messa a disposizione una cosa che non avevo mai visto prima, una specie di piscina interna allo scafo della barca in una camera pressurizzata in modo da farla comunicare con il mare. Questa è un'ottima idea per dare alle persone che hanno paura di nuotare dove non toccano la possibilità di poter letteralmente camminare nell'acqua circondati dai pesci tropicali,che entrano nella vasca attirati dalle briciole di pane.

Per chi volesse, durante questa sosta di un'ora è anche possibile effettuare una prova di immersione con attrezzatura subacquea, pagando un extra.

Alle 12.30 abbiamo attraccato nuovamente al molo e dopo una breve camminata abbiamo raggiunto il Phi Phi Hotel per il pranzo. Qui ci siamo seduti ognuno al tavolo precedentemente assegnato per godere delle numerose pietanze Thai a base di pesce, gamberi, pollo, verdure, zuppe, riso e altro. Un pasto vario, abbondante e gustoso.

In seguito viene data totale libertà fino alle 14.15 quando bisogna ritrovarsi al traghetto. Questo tempo può essere utilizzato passeggiando per l'isola, facendo shopping nei numerosi negozietti, sedendosi in un bar oppure semplicemente prendendo il sole in spiaggia che è ciò che io ho pigramente deciso di fare.

Una volta tornato alla barca come da appuntamento, Chalee mi aspettava sorridente per offrirmi una fresca noce di cocco. Quando tutti i passeggeri si sono imbarcati siamo partiti per rientrare a Phuket, arrivando circa alle 16.00 e ognuno è stato riportato in hotel tramite i pulmini.

Posso dire di aver trascorso una giornata rilassante ed interessante, esplorando un luogo splendido con un ottimo trattamento. Ora che ho "assaggiato" il posto, Probabilmente ripeterò questa gita in futuro, fermandomi però un giorno in più pernottando a Phi Phi Don, in modo da poterne apprezzare la celebre spumeggiante vita notturna, e magari affittando una long tail boat per andare a visitare Maya Bay nell'orario in cui non si incontrano le masse di turisti della giornata.

Escursione Giornaliera Ban Raya

Avendo fin'ora visitato l'isola di Racha Yai (23 km a sud di Phuket) soltanto immergendomi nelle acque circostanti da barche per subacquei, ho deciso di unirmi a questa escursione per poter assaporare anche la parte "terrestre" dell'isola. La gita "Ban Raya" è organizzata dall'omonimo resort elegantemente mimetizzato nella rigogliosa vegetazione dell'isola.

Mi sono recato di persona al porto di Chalong alle 8.45 come da appuntamento, anche se c'era la possibilità di avere un trasferimento tramite pulmino incluso nel prezzo dell'escursione. Puntualmente alle ore 9.00 siamo partiti con il piccolo motoscafo munito di due fuoribordo da 125hp ciascuno e giubbotti salvagente all'occorrenza. La traversata è stata piuttosto comoda grazie al mare calmo e al fatto che essendo ora bassa stagione a bordo oltre a me c'erano soltanto i due membri dell'equipaggio, la guida di nome "Noi", un paio di dipendenti del resort ed una coppia di simpatici coniugi australiani, che come me andavano a visitare Racha Yai.

Come predetto dall'allegro e professionale Noi che parla piuttosto bene inglese, dopo 30 minuti circa dalla partenza abbiamo raggiunto finalmente l'isola.

Lo scenario che si presenta al primo colpo d'occhio è entusiasmante, l'isola è completamente ricoperta dalla verdissima vegetazione, un verde che contrasta con il bianco delle piccole spiagge e le sfumature turchesi dell'acqua cristallina.

Come prima sosta la barca si è attraccata ad una boa nella piccola baia di Kon Keh (spero che si scriva così) a est, dando a me e ai miei nuovi amici la possibilità di fare un po' di snorkeling. Noi ha prontamente fornito le maschere ed i boccagli, e siccome Elise non si sentiva molto sicura nel nuoto è stata subito dotata di giubbotto salvagente. Appena entrato in acqua sono stato attorniato da una simpatica nuvola di piccoli colorati pesci "sergente maggiore", attratti dalle briciole di pane lanciategli dai marinai. L'acqua limpidissima permette un'ottima visione del fondale ricco di coralli e pesci di barriera, che si trova 4-5 metri sotto la superficie.

Dopo circa mezz'ora in acqua ci siamo spostati in un'altra baia, "Lah Bay" per un'altra sosta di snorkeling.

Successivamente il motoscafo ci ha scaricato su una passerella galleggiante di plastica che ci ha permesso scendere sull'isola. Ad aspettarci abbiamo trovato un simpatico trattore con rimorchio per passeggeri che ci ha portato per un tragitto di circa 5 minuti lungo una strada sterrata immersa nel verde, permettendoci di osservare la giungla intorno a noi ed i tranquilli e possenti bufali lasciati liberi al pascolo.

Dopo questo piccolo viaggio siamo giunti al ristorante del Ban Raya Resort, dove ad attenderci c'era un sorridente cameriere pronto ad offrirci una fresca limonata di benvenuto ed un portachiavi in omaggio. Subito dopo, a mezzogiorno circa, ci siamo accomodati a tavola e dopo breve tempo il cibo ha cominciato ad arrivare: un'abbondante varietà di gustosi piatti thai a base di pesce, pollo, verdure, riso, zuppe ed altro. E' stato proprio il caso di pronunciare la frase "pancia mia fatti capanna", e comunque nonostante la mia risaputa golosità non sono riuscito a finire tutto.

Dopo un pranzo abbondante non c'è niente di meglio che oziare, quindi ci è stato dato tempo fino alle 13.30 per crogiolarci nella splendida piscina a terrazza vista mare oppure sulla minuta e riservata spiaggia. Dopo un po' di tempo trascorso in piscina, ho deciso di fare una passeggiata nei dintorni, potendo godere della magica e rilassante atmosfera di questo luogo. La piscina, i bungalows e il resto del resort sono perfettamente immersi nella natura, uniti da piccoli sentieri lastricati all'interno di un vasto giardino tropicale, a mio avviso curato e mantenuto in maniera impeccabile.

Come previsto poco dopo le 13.30 ci siamo riuniti, pronti a saltare nuovamente su trattore per la prossima destinazione sull'isola. Questa volta il tragitto è stato leggermente più lungo, attraverso giungla e piccole risaie. Ad un certo punto il trattore si è fermato senza apparente motivo, e la guida con voce eccitata ha richiamato la nostra attenzione: un varano lungo circa un metro stava lentamente attraversando la strada per tornare a nascondersi nella vegetazione!

Dopo 10 minuti circa eccoci arrivati a Pa Tok Beach, la spiaggia principale dell'isola. Qui si trovano un altro resort, alcuni ristoranti tipici e una schiera di lettini e ombrelloni che si possono affittare a 100 baht l'uno. La cosa che mi ha particolarmente colpito di questa spiaggia è il fatto di quanto bianca fosse la sabbia!

Dopo poco più di un'altra ora di relax, alle 14.45 abbiamo ripreso il trattore per tornare alla passerella galleggiante dove il nostro motoscafo ci stava aspettando per rientrare a Phuket. Come all'andata dopo 30 minuti di navigazione alle 15.30 siamo arrivati al porto di Chalong, dove un pulmino ha caricato i miei compagni di escursione per riportarli al loro hotel e io sono saltato in sella al mio motorino alla volta di casa.

Nel complesso posso dire di aver trascorso un'ottima giornata, nonostante il cielo sia stato coperto per la maggior parte del tempo fortunatamente non ha piovuto e tutto è proseguito liscio. Consiglio vivamente questa gita, soprattutto a coloro che vogliono trascorrere del tempo rilassandosi lontano dal mondo e a contatto con la natura.

Potrei definire Racha Yai come un "isola anti-stress", magari la prossima volta mi fermo per un paio di giorni in più!

We had a fantastic day on Raya Yai Island. We had ‘Crazy Eddie’ as our guide for the day and he was great. Managed to get the most beautiful blue skies on that day and we truly loved it, thanks for recommending it.

You never know, we may well be back to Phuket one day. Certainly I will recommend you to any friends that come over to Phuket. Particularly the Private tour we did to Phang Nga and the snorkeling tour. We did enjoy the safari day but really I thought it was ok for kids but not so much if it was just adults.

Phang Nga Bay & James Bond Island Tour

Hi Jamie. my family and i recently traveleed to Phuket and on your advice used Easy Day Thailand for the very trip you have blogged here. Ingo from EDT was awesome, couldnt do enough for us, in fact we ended up booking 3 other tours through him to make 4 in total out of an 11 day stay. the guide on the day, Jot, i hope this is how his name was spelt, was fantastic. always ready to help and answer questions, nothing was any trouble for him including being very hands on in helping with our very active 3yo son so my wife and i could sightsee or take pics etc and know we could take our eyes of him for a moment and that he was safe. the trip was excellent. James Bond island before the crowds, through the sea cave you mentioned, Koh Panyee (which i could have spent all day at taking pics) back to Samchong Seafood for lunch, a stop at a temple/monkey cave which the kids loved. and on the way back to our hotel a stop ff at a cashew nut factory which my wife and i loved and found fascinating. all in all a wonderful day out for our family. thanks for the recommendation. and just to add to the thanks... i also booked a scuba DSD trip through you at PhiPhi through Offspray Leisure. the trip was awesome. Sean and Eric from Offspray were great. so a big thanks for all your help. and even though we might not be making it back to Phuket for the next few years i will be continuing to read your blog with interest. cheers. MV Sai Mai - Phuket Charter Boat

I was researching things about Phuket when I've accidentally stumbled to Jamie Monk blogs and he recommends Easy Day Thailand on so many things, so I contacted you guys to see if Jamie is right :) ...

I feel comfortable right from the very start, when I sent an email and Ingo replied. I must say I made the right choice when I booked tours with Easy Day Thailand ...

To improve the elephant trekking. I enjoyed riding the elephant, but I've expected a jungle safari not just on the roads. (I can't blame the elephant though, he was very playful the whole time, and doesn't want to walk anymore :) )

I'm impressed with these two, Ingo and Yot (Phang Nga bay tour guide) ...

I've been recommending you to my friends since I got back from my vacation. And I must say, I'd definitely contact you guys if ever we are coming to Phuket again. ...

Easy Day Thailand is great now as it is, but of course everything has a room for improvements. Just keep improving for good and keep up the good work.

Raya Island Day Tour

I had heard about this day trip to Racha Yai island, and decided to do it with an outfit called Baan Raya Resort, who have a very nice resort complex on the island.

Arrived at the office at about 8:45, just as the mini-bus was bringing in the other folks....they offered coffee and juice while we were waiting for more people, then at nine off to the beach and the boat, transferred there by another bus.....

Got on this big speed boat with twin 200 hp outboards, they told us it would take 45 minutes to the island, the water was flat and it took about 35 minutes.

Pulled into a bay and it was time to go snorkeling in clear warm water, got to do that for half an hour, then we moved to another site and went again for another half hour. The crew had some bread and was throwing in crumbs and the sergeant majors were swarming, sort of exciting.....
Then, we returned to the boat and went over to this floating dock, it’s made up of plastic cubes all joined together and it’s weird...did you want to know how it feels to walk on water...just walk on this thing, it goes up and down with the wave action.

There was transport waiting for us, a wagon with bench seats, pulled by a tractor quite slowly through the resort grounds to the main resort area, past the water buffalos and a zillion fallen coconuts.

When we got to the main resort area at about 11:00, we were given an orientation of the grounds and told to go and enjoy the beach or the pool or just have a look around. The resort has it all, a Spa, bars, restaurants, dive shop, and general store and great looking bungalows, and horses...lunch was at twelve.

I went to the beach and then the pool, which was fantastic and has stunning views over the coast below. Then off to lunch, which was great. Fried fish, morning glory, spring rolls, tom yum koong with shrimp of the super king sized variety and another dish, with chicken, tomatoes, potatoes, and some sort of soup like sauce, didn’t get the name, but it was great.....really, really good food.

At one o’clock, back to our transport and off we went through the palms to the other side of the island, to Bungalow Bay, where there is an outstanding beach; you know the kind, fine white sand and lots of it. We had an hour there to mess in the sea and the surf or just sunbathe.

Then around 2:30pm, our transport took us back to the other side and the floating dock, a little more exciting to walk on this time as the wind had changed and there were bigger waves, so the dock was moving up and down quite a lot......back on the boat and off we went back to Chalong Bay.

A smooth fast ride, we were at the beach by 3:30, and the minibus was waiting to take everyone back to their hotels.

It was good, a nice day on a nice island and great food.

Phi Phi Island Tour with Phi Phi Cruiser

Got to go to Phi Phi yesterday on the Phi Phi Cruiser ...opted to try out their VIP service. Got to the boat about 8:00AM, getting on was easy, was shown to the VIP area immediately, which was up on the pilothouse deck.

They give you these stickers to put on your shirt so they can differentiate the various trip packages people bought. Anyway, the VIP room is closed in, has 40 very comfortable seats, a big flat screen TV, and food and drink that is part of the deal....coffee, tea, water, soft drinks, croissants, just help yourself to as much as you like.....room has air con and big windows to look out and a sort of stewardess, very nice person named Chalee.

We were supposed to go at 8:30, but they waited for stragglers and we actually got going about 8:45. Lots of folks out on the top deck getting sun.

Got up to speed pretty quickly and had a nice smooth ride..the boat is quick, I've made that trip on a dive boat and it takes at least twice as long...we saw the big island Phi Phi Don up close by 10:05 am, then pulled into Ton Sai Pier about 10:20.
The folks that were staying overnight got off then, and then the day trippers like me got a sight seeing tour that took us over to Phi Phi Ley, we cruised into Maya Bay, where they filmed part of "The Beach", didn't go in, too crowded and the boat is too big, then we cruised around to Loh Sama, Pileh Bay and past the Viking Cave...all very pretty, then cruised back over to Phi Phi Don, got to near Monkey Beach and stopped and transferred to a smaller boat, that was taking everyone who wanted to, snorkeling. Then the big boat went off to Ton Sai Pier to wait for us.

We continued over to tie up to a barge that was moored in Coral Bay. Now it's 11:30.
The VIP people got to get on the barge, the others went into the water or watched from the snorkel boat. We got to go down and enjoy the Undersea World Aquarium..the only one like it....you go into an air lock, then it is pressurized and you go through another door and down into the hull of this barge...they cut the bottom out of it, built sort of a frame around the perimeter so fish can swim in and out of it, put sort of a screened floor that you can stand on, once you go down the steps to reach it...very cool, fish swimming in and out and all around, water is about knee deep on the platform you are standing on, but it is quite a ways below the surface...they gave us some bread to break up and feed the fish with, crazy how they swarm to get the crumbs..quite exciting for those who don't swim or snorkel but want to see what the others see and very safe....

After that back on the top deck, where the VIP folks got fruit and soft drinks and so on...after about an hour, we took the snorkeling boat over to Ton Sai Pier and went ashore. So about 12:45pm we went into the Phi Phi Hotel and sat at our pre-assigned table..we had soup, steamed fish, squid, chicken, shrimp, two vegetable dishes, rice...all excellent.....usual fresh fruit for dessert.
After lunch we got to explore the island a bit, probably had about an hour and then back to the boat for 2:30PM.

On the way back they had a great movie in our lounge, (OK I thought it was good.Iron Man2.), followed by some Mr. Bean shows...lots of people just slept, inside the lounge and outside...lots of sun and activities had tired them out, had another smooth ride back, got in to Phuket for 4:30PM.

If you've only got a day to see Phi Phi, then this was a good way to go..a little nicer lounge to sit in out of the sun, the deal with the live aquarium, and I think we got more sea food at the restaurant too. I'd do it again.

Thanks again for everything Diego! You did a fantastic job of planning out our trip, and we couldn't have been happier with it. Some of the things that really stood out were:

- The accommodations in Ao Nang and Kamala. Both hotels were absolutely spotless, and the staff very helpful and kind. Certainly the hotels in Phi Phi and Koh Lanta were fine, but these two really stood out. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to book either on my next trip to Thailand, and the value of each was outstanding. Hotels in Canada could learn a lot from them!
- The transfers, ferries, and other transportation. Even if we didn't know where we were going, who we were going with, and when we had to leave, someone did and made sure that we got there and on time. To say it was like clockwork doesn't do it justice (maybe like a Rolex, but not one purchased off the street in Patong???). Again, absolutely outstanding.
- Planning. Most people spend weeks planning trips to places like Thailand. You did it in less than 8 hours, and did a great job! Thank you!
- The diving booked through Sea Fun. The crew of the Scuba Queen was fantastic, and the boat was simply amazing. If you're going to dive the Similans, this is the way to go. In retrospect, I wish we had more time to spend with them diving!

Again, thank you so much for looking after us, and our trip. I'm hoping to come back for another 3 weeks next year, and will definitely be contacting you when I do!

Tutto perfetto: dal pick up all'aereoporto, all'albergo (mi hai letto nel pensiero...location perfetta), il diving e tutti i suoi ragazzi superprofessionali (Pai, Boris...e l'equipaggio), la minicrociera di lusso... (in 4 su una barca da 25 non è male vero??) .

Phuket Vegetarian Fastival

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival is an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.

It is believed that the vegetarian festival and its accompanying sacred rituals bestow good fortune upon those who religiously observe this rite. During this time, local residents of Chinese ancestry strictly observe a 10-day vegetarian or vegan diet for the purposes of spiritual cleansing and merit-making.

Sacred rituals are performed at various Chinese shrines and temples and aesthetic displays such as walking barefooted over hot coal and ascending ladders with bladed rungs are performed by entranced devotees known as "Ma Song".

Schedule for the 2010 Festival

The History
Phuket's Vegetarian festival (or jia chai in local Hokkien Chinese dialect) began in 1825, when the governor of Thalang district, Praya Jerm, moved the islands principal town from Ta Reua in Thalang to Get-Hoe in Kathu District, where were tin mines and Chinese miners.

Kathu was then still covered by jungle and fever was rife. It happened that a traveling opera company (which called Ngiu in Thai or pua-hee in Hokkien dialect) came from China to perform for the miners.

When the whole opera company grew sick from an unnamed malady, they kept to a vegetarian diet to honor two of the emperor gods, Kiew Ong Tai Teh and Yok Ong Sone Teh. The sickness afflicting the opera troupe then disappeared.

This greatly interested the people of Kathu, who asked how it was done. The answer came that ritual vegetarianism with its attendant ceremonies had been the cause, with the result that people embraced the faith enthusiastically.

Thus the festival began:starting the first evening of the ninth lunar month, it continued until the ninth evening; the aim was to bring good luck to individuals as well as to the community.

It later happened that one familiar with the festival volunteered to return to Kansai, in China, where he invited the sacred Hiao Ho-le or Hiao lan (incense smoke) and Lian Tui (name plaques), which have the status of gods, to come stay in Kathu. He also brought holy writings used in the ceremonies, returning to Phuket on the seventh night of the ninth month. The people, upon hearing of his arrival, went in procession to Bang Niao Pier to bring him and his sacred cargo back. This was the origin of the processions that figure so greatly in the festival.

The afternoon before the festival begins, a great pole at each temple is raised, called the Go Teng pole, with which the gods are invited to descend. At midnight the pole is hung with nine lanterns, signalizing the opening of the fest. Two important gods are also invited down at midnight to preside over ceremonies; these are Yok Ong Hong Tae and Kiew Ong Tai Tae.

Aside from this, there are other ceremonies throughout the fest, notably: invocation of the gods Lam Tao, who keeps track of the living, and Pak Tao, who keeps track of the dead; processions of the gods' images; and feats of the Ma Song-like bathing in hot oil, bladed ladder climbing and fire-walking.
The festival ends with merit making ceremonies at each temple (sadoh kro) and the send-off of the gods on the last night (when fireworks are at their most impressive).

Ma Song, or entranced horses, are devotees whom the gods enter during the fest. They manifest supernatural powers and perform self-tortures in order to shift evil from individuals onto themselves, and to bring the community good luck.
Ma Song fall into two categories:

Those who, having had an intimation of impending doom, want to extend their lives

People specially chosen by the gods for their moral qualities.

Throughout the festival fireworks and drums are sounded, especially during ceremonies. It is held that the louder they are the better, because the noise drives away evil spirits.

Participants in the fest keep to a strict vegetarian diet for a varying number of days, usually no less than three. This they do to make themselves strong in mind and body; they refrain from all vice, eating animal flesh and killing animals. The festival thus promotes good hygiene, brightness and inner peace.

Cleanliness of bodies during the festival
Clean kitchen utensils and to use them separately from other who do not join the festival
Wear white during the festival
Behave physically and mentally
No meat eating
No sex
No alcoholic drinks
People at mourning period should not attend the festival
Pregnant ladies should not watch any ritual
Ladies with period should not attend the ritual

Similan, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai og Richelieu Rock trip.

Mig og 4 venner fra Danmark og en irer tog med Andaman Divers på denne tur. Vi kørte til Tablamu med minibusog sejlede derefter til Similan hvor vi var kl. 2 om natten.
Den 1. marts havde vi første dyk på Anitas Reef mellem ø nr. 5 og 6. Det er et nemt check out dive så man lige ka checke om man har den rette mængde bly på og ens øvrige udstyr funker...
Jeg tog 5 kilo på, 4 på bæltet og en i BCDen så jeg havde noget at gi af hvis nogen i min gruppe havde brug for lidt ekstra. Jeg dykkede med Søren og Tony mens Johnny dykkede med Troels og Martin.

1.dyk kl. 8 om morgenen gik fint, dejligt nemt skrånende rev på østsiden med masser af gevir koraller og fin sandbund hvor de blåplettede rokker lå og hyggede sig. 25m. i 43 min.

2.dyk kl. 11 kunne jeg nøjes med 4 kilo og vi dykkede nu på East of Eden på østsiden af ø nr.7. Osse et rigtigt hyggedyk med skrånende rev med gevir koraller masser af fisk store koralblokke med blødkoraller i blå, gul, rød og hvide nuancer. 25m. i 42 min

3. dyk kl.14:30 var på West of Eden hvor vores turleder Etsuko fra Japan fortalte os at man kunne finde en frogfish på 13m. Dybde.

4. dyk kl. 17:30 var ved ø nr. 4 ud for Honeymoon bay. Så en stor muræne.

Næste dag stod den på lidt mere spændende dykning hvor

1. dyk var på Elephant Head Rock som ligger mellem ø nr. 7 og 8. Dette sted består af store granitblokke som ligger oven på hinanden på kryds og tværs som skaber nogle fantastiske buer og gange som man kan svømme igennem. Vi dykkede ned til 40m. for at lede efter leopardhajer og hvidtippede revhajer, men da vi nåede 30m. dybde mødte vi et meget koldt springlag og strømmen tog til og sigten blev reduceret til 10m. Og da vi nåede 40m. var der stadig dårlig sigt så vi fortsatte langsomt op mod de 25m. hvor vi endelig kom igennem det kolde springlag og kunne ta den lidt mere med ro. Masser af fisk omkring og under de store granit blokke.

2. dyk var på North Point ud for ø nr.9 hvor der osse er er store granitblokke i 40 til 13m. dybde. På lavere vand er der et omfattende koralrev som hovedsagligt består af gevirkoraller. Go chance for at se skildpadder her.

3. dyk var på vestsiden af Koh Bon. Så vi havde nu forladt Similan øerne for at sejle længere nordpå mod Koh Bon og Koh Tachai. Her på Koh Bon er den store attraktion Manta rokker som er tiltrukket af denne klipperyg som strækker sig fra overfladen og ned til 30- 40m. Her bliver mantaerne renset af pudsefisk som napper parasitter og død hud. Dette fænomen kaldes osse en ”cleaning station”. Men det gælder om at være tålmodig og om være på det rette sted på det rette tidspunkt. Det var først de sidste 10min.af dykket vi var så heldige at en manta på 4m.i diameter svævede majestætisk i mod os og stoppede op 3 m. fra os for at blive renset af pudsefiskene. Rainbow runners fulgte med på frihjul. Sikke et syn, det ka jeg aldrig blive træt af at se på selvom jeg har mere end 4.000 dyk. Langs klipperyggen er der osse mange bløde koraller i violette og hvide nuancer. Inde imellem revner og huler i klipperyggen er der store sværme af glasfisk og vi så osse 2 napoleonfisk. Altid et dyk værd her.

4. dyk var på Koh Tachai reef på østsiden. Dejligt afslappende revdyk hvor vi så 2 leopardhajer og masser af revfisk i alle regnbuens farver.

3. dag tog vi videre til Richelieu Rock som er en klippe midt ude i ingenting som ligger endnu længere nordpå mod grænsen til Burma. Kun det øverste af klippen rager en meter op over overfladen ved lavvande, mens resten af den hesteskoformede klippe fortsætter under vandet ned til 30m. dybde hvor der en svagt skrånende sandbund. Denne undervands klippeformation er en sand fiskemagnet, både m.h.t. revfisk og ”pelagics” d.v.s. arter som lever og bevæger sig i de frie vandmasser. Så det gælder om at ha et øje på hver finger her for hvis man er for optaget af at kigge på revet ka det være man misser den hvalhaj der lige kom forbi ude i det blå. Kæmpe stimer af Jackfish, Trevallies og Chevron Barracudaer. Det er vitterligt som at dykke i et akvarium. På klippen ka man være så heldig at spotte søheste, frogfish, ghostpipefish, muræner, pudserejer, harlequinrejer, flere arter af klovnefisk, cuttlefish og i sprækker og hulrum pænt store havaborrer. Der var ingen tvivl om at vi ville bruge hele dagen og dermed 4 dyk her.

Sidste dag dykkede vi på Koh Tachai south reef som er et rev formet lidt som en osteklokke i den øverste del, d.v.s fra 10m. som er toppen af revet og ned til 20m hvor store granitblokke tar over. Goe muligheder for leopardhajer her. På den vestlige del af revet flotte viftekoraller og bløde koraller i røde, gule og orange nuancer. Så osse en pænt stor Barracuda.

Sidste dyk blev endnu et dyk på Koh Bon men desværre ingen manta denne gang, men stadig masser at kigge på.

Letzter Tag einer 4 Tage / 4 Nächte Tour nach Myanmar

Heute hieß es wieder früh aufstehen, denn wir flogen zurück nach Yangon.

Im Hotel angekommen gingen wir erst einmal auf unsere Zimmer im Summit Parkview Hotel und ruhten uns bis zum frühen Nachmittag aus. Nach den vielen Besichtigungen in den letzten 3 tagen war man ganz schön fertig.

Dann standen noch ein paar Besichtigungen auf dem Programm. Wir machten eine Rundfahrt in China Town und wollten den bekannten Bogyoke Markt auch bekannt als Scott Market besuchen. Leider war er aber geschlossen da heute ein Buddha Feiertag war. So besichtigten wir noch das berühmte Strand Hotel und die Botahtaung Pagode.

Anmerkungen zum Essen in Myanmar:

Am ersten Tag besuchten wir das Green Elephant Restaurant in Yangon. Ein sehr schönes Restaurant das auf Touristen abgestimmt ist.

Auf dem Rest der Reise gingen wir fast nur in einheimische Lokale zum Essen. An das Essen muss man sich jedoch erst gewöhnen. Es gibt eine Unzahl von Curry Gerichten, die alle sehr ölig und fettig sind. Auch kommen diese häufig lauwarm oder fast kalt auf den Tisch.

Die Currys werden in großen Töpfen gekocht. Da die Burmesen sehr früh zu Abend essen und wir immer später kamen ist dann das Essen nicht mehr so warm. Da muss man schon sagen das es noch mal aufgewärmt werden soll.

Fazit der Reise :

Es war toll, wunderbar und sehenswert. Von den Eindrücken die man gewonnen hat kann man lange in Erinnerungen schwelgen.

Nächstes Jahr planen wir wieder eine Rundreise in Myanmar denn es gibt noch viel zu sehen.

Burma Reise im Februar 2010 - 3. Tag

3. Tag einer 4 Tage / 4 Nächte Tour nach Myanmar

Heute konnten wir mal etwas ausschlafen. Die Tour ging erst nach dem Frühstück los. Um 9.3o Uhr holte uns der Reiseleiter ab und wir fuhren nach Amarapura, die "Stadt der Unsterblichen ". Sie liegt 11 Km südlich von Mandalay . Der Ort wurde 1781 unter König Bodawpaya zur Königshauptstadt . 1857 wurde aber Mandalay die Hautstadt der Region.

Am Ende der Stadt ist das Mahagandhayon Kloster. Es ist eines der größten Klöster des Landes, in dem ca. 1500 Mönche leben und studieren. Hier wird auch die alte Hindi Sprache Sanskrit gelehrt. Diese Sprache wird nur noch von den buddhistischen Mönchen in aller Welt gesprochen.

Pünktlich jeden Tag um 10.30 Uhr beginnt die Speisung der Mönche. In zweier Reihen stellen sich die Mönche auf und gehen in den Innenhof um ihr Essen zu erhalten. Laien geben das Essen aus und legen es in die Schalen der Mönche. Die Laien betrachten es als eine gute Tat . Nachdem sie ihr Essen erhalten haben gehen die Mönche in den großen Speisesaal und essen schweigend ihre Mahlzeit. Mich störte das die Touristen laut schwatzend im Speisesaal herum liefen . Auf meine Frage warum das erlaubt ist sagte man mir " Jeder soll sehen koennen wie die Moenche leben ". Ich finde das nicht in Ordnung.

Nun fuhren wir zum Taungtaman See. 1851 wurde eine Teakholz Brücke mit 1,2 Km Länge über den See gebaut. Die U-Bein Brücke erhielt ihren Namen nach ihrem Erbauer. Es ist die längste Teakholzbrücke der Welt und steht auf 1086 Stämmen. Als wir hier waren ragten die Pfeiler ca. 3 Meter aus dem Wasser. In der Regenzeit ist sie auch öfters überflutet.

Nach einem Besuch in einer Seidenweberei machten wir uns auf den Weg in die Saggaing Berge.

21 Km südlich von Mandalay und an der West Küste des Ayeyarwaddy Flusses reihen sich Klöster und Pagoden am Berg entlang. Es ist ein Zufluchtsort für gläubige Buddhisten.

Am Nachmittag fuhren wir mit dem Boot auf dem Ayeyarwaddy Fluss nach Migun. Nach ca. 1 1/2 Stunden ruhiger Fahrt kam die Pathodawgyi Pagode in Sicht.

Mingun liegt ungefähr 11 Kilometer nördlich (flussaufwärts) von Mandalay, am gegenüberliegenden Damm des Ayeyarwady Flusses und ist deshalb nur mit dem Boot zu erreichen. Eine Sehenswürdigkeit ist die Ruine der Pathodawgyi Pagode. Diese unfertige Pagode wäre sicherlich zum Abschluss ihres Baus die größte der Welt gewesen. Heute bleibt sie jedoch nur der größte Steinhaufen der Welt. Die Hauptattraktion in Mingun ist die Mingun-Glocke eine der größten hängenden intakten Glocken ohne Riss, die 1790 König Bodawpaya bauen ließ. Die Glocke hat ein Gewicht von 90 Tonnen, einen Durchmesser von 5 Metern und eine Höhe von 4 Metern. Früher war diese Glocke in der Mingun Pagode, die jedoch von einem Erdbeben zerstört wurde.

Am frühen Abend waren wir wieder zurück in unserem Hotel in Mandalay, dem Mandalay Swan Hotel.

In der Frühe um 4 Uhr klingelte der Wecker. Wie mussten so früh aufstehen, da unser Flug nach Mandalay schon um 6 Uhr los ging.

Der Inland Flughafen ist ein besonderes Erlebnis . Einfach ist gar kein Ausdruck.Geschäfte gibt es auch keine. Ein Junge mit einer Tafel in der Hand ruft zum an Bord gehen auf. Dann geht es ab ins kleine Flugzeug.

Nach ca. einer Stunde Flug erreichten wir Mandalay. Der Flughafen sah ein bisschen besser und neuer aus.

Ein anderer Reiseleiter erwartete uns und begann sofort mit der Besichtigung.

Wie besuchten eine kleine alte Stadt Palake (das kleine Bagan).

Eine Unzahl alter Pagoden und Häuser war zu besichtigen. Auf sehr staubigen und sandigen Straßen fuhren wir zu verschiedenen Handwerksbetrieben. Eine Baumwoll Weberei und Färberei, eine Straße voll mit Steinmetzen die Buddha Figuren herstellen, eine Holzschnitzerei, ein Betrieb in dem Blattgold in schwerer Handarbeit hergestellt wurde und eine Fabrik in dem Teppiche geknüpft und gestickt wurden besuchten wir. Man kommt aus dem Staunen nicht mehr raus.

Ein Höhepunkt war der Besuch der Mahamuni Pagode. Der Legende nach ist es das wirkliche Abbild Buddhas. Es ist mit ein Haupt Pilgerziel für jeden Buddhisten. Pausenlos wird die Figur von Gläubigen mit Blattgold belegt. Ein einmaliger Anblick.

Am Mittag bezogen wir unsere Zimmer im Mandalay Swan Hotel. Hier machten wir Pause und erholten uns am Hotel Pool nach dem Mittagessen. Über das Essen und über Restaurants berichte ich an anderer Stelle.

Am Nachmittag fuhren wir wieder weiter.

Das Shwenandaw Kloster ist aus Teakholz gebaut und mit wunderschönen geschnitzten Ornamenten und Figuren schmückt. Es ist noch original aus der Zeit des letzten Königs von Burma. Das Kloster war ursprünglich ganz mit Blattgold verziert, jedoch durch Witterungseinflüsse ist nur noch im Inneren etwas davon zu sehen.

Weiter ging es zur Kuthodaw Pagode, die auch bekannt ist als das größte Buch der Welt. Ursprünglich war Buddhas Lehre auf Palmen-blättern geschrieben. Um es aber für die Ewigkeit zu erhalten gab der damalige König 1857 den Bau der Pagode in Auftrag. Auf 729 Marmortafeln wurde der Text gemeißelt. Man benötigte 7 1/2 Jahre dafür. Jede der Tafeln steht in einer kleinen Pagode. Es ist eine riesige Anlage kaum zu überblicken.

Der Nächste Besuch galt der Kusinara Pagode. Buddha ist in Indien geboren und hier starb er auch. Diese Figur soll den toten Buddha darstellen.

Nun fuhren wir auf den Manadalay Hill. Es ist die höchste Erhebung in der Umgebung und man hat einen einmaligen Blick über Mandalay . Hier steht auch der Kyauktawgyi Buddha. Die Figur ist aus einem Block Marmor gearbeitet. Wir blieben bis zum Sonnenuntergang . Diese Eindrücke sind bleibende Erinnerungen.

Müde ging es ins Hotel zurück.

4 Tage / 4 Nächte Tour nach Myanmar

Ich wollte schon immer eine Rundreise nach Myanmar machen und dieses Jahr hat es endlich geklappt. Drei Freunde und ich taten uns zusammen und nahmen diese Reise in Angriff. Einen guten Organisator fanden wir bei www.easydaythailand.com. Wir sagten was wir sehen wollten und bekamen verschiedene Vorschläge.

Einer gefiel uns am besten und den buchten wir. EasyDay übernahm die ganze Organisation vom Visa Antrag bis zur Flugbuchung und alles hat fantastisch geklappt.

Der Flug ging über Bangkok nach Yangon. Am Flughafen angekommen wurden wir von unserem Reiseleiter in Empfang genommen . Er brachte uns auch durch etwas komplizierte Einreisebürokratie.

Wir wohnten im Summit Parkview Hotel, einem sehr schönen , ruhigen 3 Sterne Hotel.

Nach einer kurzen Ruhepause begann die Rundreise. Der Reiseleiter wartete mit Fahrer und Minibus vor dem Hotel und wir fuhren zum großen liegenden Buddha Chaukhtatgyi. Es ist einer der größten der Welt. Die Statue ist 72 Meter lang und 39 Fuß hoch. Sie wurde 1907 wurde gebaut aber nach einem Erdbeben zerstört aber von 1957 bis 1966 wieder aufgebaut.

Von hier ist es nicht weit zur Shwedagon Pagode. Bei dem Anblick bleibt einem die Luft weg. Sie ist über 2500 Jahre alt. Wurde mehrfach durch Erdbeben und Brände zerstört aber immer wieder aufgebaut. 98 Meter hoch und mit purem Gold verziert. Die Turmspitze ist aus purem Gold und mit 4351 Diamanten zusammen 1800 Karat besetzt. Ein 76 Karat Solitär krönt das Ganze. Im Inneren soll ein Schrein mit 7 Haaren Buddha sein. Den Anblick, und das noch bei Sonnenuntergang , vergisst man nicht.

Der Abend stand uns zur freien Verfühgung. Wir fuhren mit dem Taxi in die Altstadt zur Sule Pagode. Es ist die älteste Pagode der Stadt direkt im Zentrum. Kleine Geschäfte sind rund um die Pagode gebaut. Hier werden religiöse Sachen verkauft aber auch Wahrsager und Handleser sind hier zu finden.

So ging der erste Abend zu Ende. Auf dem nach hause Weg kam man aber auch an solchen Ecken vorbei.

A proposito di...Thailandia Facile ed intrigante

A solo un ora e mezza (taxi+barca) da Phuket si trova un isola poco conosciuta: Koh Yao Yai.
L'isola si trova a sud della famosa baia di Phang Nga, ed e la piu grande di un arcipelago di 44 isole.

Come Arrivarci

Sono partito da Patong ed in circa mezzora ho raggiunto con un taxi il molo di Jien Vanich , dove mi sono imbarcato con un ferry destinazione Loh Pa Pier (150 THB)e dopo una tranquilla traversata di 1 ora tra isolotti dalle spiagge bianchissime ho avuto subito la senzazione una volta a terra di trovarmi in un altra thailandia!!!!!!!! pochissimo traffico,aria pulita,natura intatta.
Queste piacevoli senzazioni sono continuate anche lungo il tragitto che mi ha portato al YAO YAI BEACH RESORT gestito dall amabile sig.AMSA..la cui rilassata e . gentile accoglienza ti fa sentire subito a tuo agio. Il resort si inserisce bene nell ambiente una vera e propia oasi di pace immerso nella natura.Il giardino tutto attorno ai bungalow( a non piu' di 10 metri dal mare )e' ben curato fiori, piante tropicali e prato verde fino al limitare della spiaggia.e solo il tramonto vale il viaggio

La spiaggia

Situata in una bella baia di circa 1km dove a parte un pontile abbandonato non si notano altre costruzioni e'di sabbia corallina e solo verso la fine del litorale giusto a destra del resort cominciano gli scogli.

Il mare al mattino e' limpido e la zona migliore per fare Il bagno e' quella centrale (a sinistra dei bungalow) con la bassa marea l'acqua tende ad intorpidirsi ma in questa zona e' normale.Altro fatto positivo la presenza di sole 2 long tail che propongono tour e quindi rumori molesti nulli!!!!!

I BUNGALOW
di buon livello, spaziosi, puliti e con belle decorazioni sono dotati di zanzariere,non c'e' acqua calda ma francamente non se ne sente il bisogno. I letti sono comodi ed in quelli con A.C. c'e' pure la televisione. Io ho scelto quello con il vetilatore (che non ho usato) e devo dire che ho dormito benissimo I soli rumori erano il respiro del mare le cicale gli uccelli..full immersion nella natura!!!

Il RISTORANTE
notevole... menu completo e curato cucina thai che consiglio vivamente e dei buoni piatti di pasta se propio avete voglia di cambiare portate abbondanti come da tradizione in thailandia

SCOPRIRE L'ISOLA tra la bicicletta e la moto scelgo quest'ultima...

Affitto la moto presso il resort (300 THB a marce 400 THB autom) dove mi danno anche una mappa e parto alla scoperta dell'isola..le strade sono ottime a parte qualche sterrato verso sud direzione foresta delle mongrovie.La cosa che colpisce e' praticamente l'assenza del traffico per cui guidi rilassato e ti godi il paesaggio. Mi dirigo verso SON BAY e scopro lungo il tragitto piccole vallate coltivate a riso bufali ,aironi ,aquile di mare e un profumo di fiori che pervade l'isola e la giungla mi fanno sentire a 1000km dalla caotica phuket..insomma a solo 1 ora e mezza sono in un altro mondo!!!

la baia di SON poi e' semplicemente magnifica sabbia bianca e a parte 1 barca di pescatori sono l'unico ad ammirare la natura intatta di questo luogo..addirittura dirigendomi verso il relitto di una barca che spunta dalla giungla scopro sugli scogli dei curiosi pesci anfibi che sebrano mettersi in posa per farsi fotografare!!!

Koh Yai Yao e sicuramente un luogo dove ci si puo rilassare godendosi la natura, ideale per famiglie e coppie.

Visa Run da Phuket a Penang

Anche per me era il momento per un Visa Run dalla Thailandia. Per Visa Run si intende una gita di uno o piu' giorni fuori dai confini dalla Thailandia per ottenere o rinnovare il permesso di soggiorno per la Thailandia.

Penang Map
Vi chiederete perche' e' necessario un Visa Run per rinnovare il permesso di soggiorno in Thailandia. Il visto per la Tailandia e' rilasciati per una o piu entrate, per ogni entrata e consentito soggiornare nel Regno di Thailandia per 60 o 90 giorni. Alla scadenza dei quali bisogna uscire dai confini Thailandesi e rientrare per ottenere un nuovo timbro. Se il vostro Visto, era valido per un entrata (Single Entry) sara necessario ottenerne uno nuovo ai consolati o ambasciate Thailandesi. Se invece era per piu entrate (Multiple Entries) dovrete solo uscire e rientrare.
Fate sempre attenzione a rispettare le date di uscita, se superate il limite verrete multati al confine. La multa e' di 500 THB al giorno fino ad un massimo di 40,000 THB, un Overstay troppo lungo o ripetuto puo provocare in certi casi il mancato rilascio del Visto Thailandese.

Questa volta ho deciso di provare il Visa Run a Penang con Minibus della durata di 2 giorni

La partenza da Phuket e verso le 22.30 con un minibus e comodo e pulito, viene fornita anche una coperta ed una bottiglietta d'acqua.
Durante il tragitto si fanno parecchie soste per sgranchirsi le gambe e comprare qualcosa da mangiare.
Alle 6 del mattino eravamo alla frontiera, visto l'ora e nonostante qualcuno dei passeggeri avesse il timbro scaduto (overstay) le operazioni alla dogana sono state rapide. Passata la frontiera Malese ci siamo fermati in un ristorante per fare colazione, inclusa nel prezzo.

Qui ho subito cambiato i Baht Thailandesi in Ringit, in Malesia gli ATM sono pochissimi quindi consiglio di cambiare subito i soldi o cambiarli in Thailandia il giorno prima di partire.
Dalla frontiera in due ore eravamo a Penang, un isola nella parte Nord-Ovest della costa Malese. (link Mappa Penang).
Alle 10:30 (ora Malese) siamo arrivati al consolato, in dipendenza dal tipo di visto che si richiede i documenti necessari variano e ci sono dei dirtti da pagare. Di seguito una breve guida e la lista dei documenti e prezzi. Tenete presente che le regole e leggi cambiano in continuazione:

Il consolato tratterra' il passaporto e rilascera' una ricevuta per il irtiro il giorno dopo, attenzione a non perderla! Questa volta la guida che ci accompagnava si e' preso cura delle ricevute e la mattina segunete ha ritirato i passaporti.

Finalmente dopo una lunga giornata si raggiunge l'hotel "Continental", dotato di sala conferenze, coffee house, ristorante e piscina.
Le camere sono spaziose e sufficentemente pulite, con tv via cavo, minibar e internet a pagamento.
Vesro mezzogiorno viene servito il pranzo, al ristorante al primo piano, un buon beffet al quale si puo' aggiungere un secondo a scelta dal menu sempre incluso nel prezzo

Dopo pranzo la nostra guida ci da appuntamento per il giorno dopo alle 11.30, quindi si e' liberi di riposarsi all'hotel o visitare Penang di segutio qualche suggerimento:

Cose da Fare e vedere

-George Town: la citta principale di Penang in stile coloniale, patrimonio mondiale dell'Unesco,
Ogni edificio, ogni starda a George Town sembra avere una storia da raccontare.

-Il Tempio Kek Lok e il piu grande Tempio Buddista in Malesia, la sua costruzione e
iniziata nel 1890, ed oggi domina dall'alto la citta di Air Itam.

-Il Budda disteso nella citta di Pulau Tikus costruito nel 1845 da un monaco Thailandese
e lungo 33 metri e attrae moltissimi devoti da tutto il mondo. Intorno al tempio ce
una piccola comunita Thailandese.

-La collina di Penang, 821 m sopra il livello del mare, potrete vedere alcuni dei
piu grandiosi edifici coloniali, che oggi sono diventati bar e ristoranti,mentre
ci si gode la splendida vista e l'aria rinfrescante. Per arrivare in cima alla collina si una una suggestiva funivia.

- Rilassarsi sulla spiaggia di Batu Ferringhi

Sicuramente la cucina Thailandese ma a Peneng troverete parecchi ristoranti con ottimo indiano o locale com ad esempio:

- Nasi Kandar: riso servito con curry e delizie di ogni sorta, meticolosamente
preparato con pesce, pollo, manzo e calamaro

-Laksa: zuppa con noodle che puo essere preparata con latte di cocco oppure acida e piccante

-Char Koay Teow:un noodle fritto che si dice abbia un gusto paradisiaco!!!

Per la cena (non inclusa) troverete molti ristoranti e pub a due passi dall'hotel, per rialssarsi e passare la serata la zona dell'hotel offre nelle vicinanze bar, ristoranti e pub.

Il mattino seguente la colazione viene servita dalle 7.00 alle 10.00 e dopo colazione alle 12.30 siamo ripartiti per Phuket, la guida mi ha consegnato il passaporto direttamente e si e dimostrato molto serio ed efficente per tutto il tempo.
Se vi sono rimasti dei ringit potete cambiarli prima della frontiera.
Il viaggio di ritorno e andato benissimo, ci siamo fermati per una cena in un ristorante Thailandese molto carino, ancora una volta compreso nel prezzo.
Siamo arrivati a Phuket verso le ore 21:00, in perfetto orario.

Qualche nota finale:

- Oltre che con servizio con minibus e' disponibile anche un ottimo servzio con aereo da Phuket direttamente a Penang. Piu' costoso ma piu rilassante lascaindo anche piu' tempo per visitare Penang.(link Firefly to Penang)

- Ricordatevi prima di partire di rispettare la data di uscita (niente Overstay!!!) e di avere tutte le carte e documentinecessari con voi.

- Cercate sempre qualcuno che abbia fatto un Visa Run recentemente che avra' informazioni aggiornate riguardo I documenti necessari.

Cena al Tramonto con Kalum Sea

Kalum Sea e una company molto recente qui a Phuket. Con il suo catamarano D.M.B., una barca di 25 metri di lunghezza e 9 di larghezza costruita nel 1982, offre uscite giornaliere a Honeymoon Island e Coral Island, Charter e Cene al Tramonto al Promthep Cape.

Sono stato invitato da Kalum Sea per un uscita di ispezione sulla barca.
Il punto di ritrovo era per le 16.00 di pomeriggio al porto di Chalong, dove partono la maggioranza delle escursioni qui a Phuket. Appena arrivati al molo non ho dovuto cercare molto per trovare lo staff di Kalum Sea: con le loro magliette rosa brillante sarebbe impossibile non notarli!

Dopo l'arrivo di tutti I clienti si prende un pulmino per raggiungere la fine del molo da dove partono le barche. Alle ore 16.30 si salpa alla volta di Promthep Cape.
La D.M.B e un catamarano stupendo, in perfette condizioni, dotato dei maggiori comfort, di un gommone, un kayak e un compressore e attrezzatura per il diving. A poppa si trovano I tavoli e le panchine ed un bar con bancone, in questa zona della barca ci si puo servire con caffe, the, frutta fresca e acqua che sono disponibili per tutta l'escursione. Siamo stati subito serviti con spremute di arancia e brioches dallo staff sempre molto attento e disponibile.
Ai lati della barca, si entra nella cabina di guida dove potete fare due chiacchere con il capitano. Poi ce l entrata che porta alle stanze da letto per I clienti con un letto matrimoniale , e il salotto con divani, cucina e televisione.

La prua della barca e il posto perfetto per godersi il mare e il sole mentre si veleggia verso il Promthep Cape.

Nella parte superiore si trova il posto di guida all'aperto e un altra area dove rilassarsi e godersi la vista con panchine e divanetti.

Appena fuori dal molo l'equipaggio dispiega le vele e si parte verso Promthep Cape, per raggiungerlo si impiega all' incirca 45 minuti.

Arrivati a destinazione il paesaggio e stupendo: il capo dell'Isola, la spiaggia di Nai Harn e il sole che tramonta creano un paesaggio assolutamente spettacolare. Aspettando la cena ci si puo divertire con giri sul gommone, kayak oppure fare il bagno in una rete da cargo che la barca traina lentamente.

La cena viene servita a poppa: Un buffet con portate enormi di riso, pollo, maiale, insalate varie, spiedini alla griglia e sashimi. Ce ne per tutti I palati e la qualita e eccezionale.
Mentre ci si gusta la cena la barca veleggia verso Chalong e quindi la fine dell'nostro viaggio.
Si arriva in porto per le 19.00 di sera, aspetta con calma e quando scendete fate molta attenzione perche il molo puo essere molto scivoloso. Seguite le indicazioni dello staff che vi riportera indietro al parcheggio all inizio del porto.

I servizi di Kalum Sea sono eccellenti nonostante abbiano iniziato da poco, la barca e stupenda e lo staff disponibile e attento. L'unico problema che ho riscontrato e un po troppa gente sulla barca: 70-80 persone sono un po troppe meglio un gruppo piu piccolo in modo da godersi meglio il viaggio.

Oltre al Sunset Dinner al Promthep Cape ed alle uscite in giornata a Honeymoon e Coral Island, la D.M.B e perfetta per I charter. Una crociera Sub alle Similan Islands, sarebbe il massimo!!!
In conclusione consiglio caldamente Kalum Sea per il loro servizio di alta qualita.

Tauchen in den Similan Inseln

Ein Jahr ist es her das ich an den Similan Inseln tauchen war. Das letzten mal war es eine Tauchsafari von Phuket nach Similan und dem Richeliu Rock. Dies mal sollte es eine Tages Ausfahrt sein.

Am Tag zuvor rief mich ein Freund an der seit einigen Tage in Khao Lakist, und hat mich eingeladen nach Khao Lak zu kommen um eine Tauchtagestour nach Similan zu machen. Ich habe mich nicht 2x bitten lassen, sondern sofort zugesagt. Es bietet sich mir ja nicht jeden tag die Gelegenheit. Also packte ich schnell meine Tauchausrüstung zusammen und packte sie auch direkt ins Auto.

Am nächsten morgen klingelte um 5 der Wecker und nach einem kleinen Imbiss schwang ich mich ins Auto. Und schon machte mich auf den Weg von Phuket nach Khao Lak, das ca. 90 km entfernt ist. Da ich rechtzeitig los fuhr war ich schon innerhalb von 30 Minuten auf dem Festland in Phang Nga und nach weiteren 45 Minuten kam ich im KhaoLak City Hotel an, in dem mein Freund wohnte. Ich hat ein wenig Zeit um mir das kleine aber sehr gepflegte Guesthouse einmal anzusehen. Das Kleine Hotel hat alles was man braucht von gepflegte Zimmern mit Bad und Klima Anlage, einem kleinen Restaurant und eine zentrale Lage. Ein 7/11 Supermarkt direkt daneben und nicht weit entfernt von einem von Khao Lak's schönsten Stränden.

Um 7.30 Uhr sollte der Bus kommen der uns zum Boot in Tab Lamu bringen soll. Der Bus kam über pünktlich und nach 20Minuten war ich und mein guter alter Tauchpartner bereits auf dem Tauchboot, der MV Pinyo. Die MV Pinyo ist ein neues Tagestouren Schiff das von IQ Dive betrieben wird.

Nach einer kurzen aber informativen Willkommen an Bord Ansprache unseres Tourleiters Hans, legte das Schiff nach wenigen Minuten ab und wir waren auf dem Weg zu den Similans. Die Überfahrt dauerte 2.5 Stunden und während der Überfahrt wurde ein Frühstück serviert das nichts zu wünschen übrig lies.

Nach dem Frühstück hatte ich ausreichend Zeit meine Tauchausrüstung zusammen zubauen. Nach einem kurzen Sonnenbad was es dann auch schon Zeit sich für den ersten Tauchgang bereit zu machen. Während sich die Taucher an Bord bereit machten wurden die Schnorchler mit dem Beiboot an den Strand gebracht. Die MV Pinyo machte sich kurz darauf auf den Weg zum ersten Tauchplatz des Tages dem Baracuda Point. Der Tauchplatz befindet sich an der Süd-Spitze der Similan Insel 5.

Der Tauchgang war wie zu erwarten ein wahres Erlebnis. Erstklassige Sicht, jede Menge Fisch und ausser unserem Tauchschiff keine anderen Taucher im Wasser.

Zurück an Bord erwartet uns bereits ein sehr gutes Mittagessen das aus 2 Hauptgerichten und Reis bestand und frischen Obst, das in Thailand bei keiner Mahlzeit fehlen darf.

Nach einer guten Stunde Erholung auf dem Sonnendeck machte wir uns wieder bereit für den nächsten Tauchgang. Diesmal geht es zum East of Eden, einem der Farben prächtigsten Riffe der Similan Inseln. Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht - Ein grossartiger Tauchgang mit ich einen wunderschönen Tauchtag abschiessen konnte.

Nach dem Tauchgang wartete bereits eine Sandwich Bar auf uns. Verhungern kann an Bord MV Pinyo mit Sicherheit nicht.

Nachdem alle Taucher und Schnorchler wieder an Bord waren machten wir uns wieder auf den Rückweg nach Tab Lamu.

Im Hafen wurden wir bereits von enem Minibus erwartet und zurück ins Hotel gebracht.

Khao Lak - Diving Similan Islands

The alternative to Liveaboards to Similans are diving day trips and you can enjoy these beautiful Similan dives sites staying in Khao Lak and diving every day.

Similan Islands are a great destination for snorkeling and sightseeing too and you will be able to take the whole family with you or your friend and partners that are non divers.

So I went to Khao Lak and spent a week there to see how operations work, select the best day trip boats and few hotels to suggest for our holidays packages in Khao Lak. Its beginning of November, the high just started but not many people already around, good weather apart strong wind for one day.

To get there I went on a diving day trip on South Siam III with pick up in Phuket and after the diving day I’ve been drop at my hotel, just 30 minutes from Tab Lamu pier. The first day I went diving at Koh Bon. I did two dives, both very good with clear calm water. A lot of life as usual and was good to see how coral reef is recovering fast here. Koh Bon is famous for diving with Mantas but they normally show up from January. On the way back to Tab Lamu Pier we had a rough sea that puts speed boats to the limit, so it took a while to come back. Next day weather was good but wind to strong and wave to big so all speed boats were canceled.

As I couldn't go diving I rented a motorbike and explored Khao Lak, looking for a friend that run IQ dive. Wasn’t to difficult the dive shop is where it was three years ago and now even easier to find as the shop is just opposite Mc Donald. They operate day trips to Similan with a traditional dive boat – M/V Pinyo. So I booked myself for two days with them to explorer the Similan Islands. First day was a day for divers, two great dives, condition were very good all week, clear water, no current and lot of life around us. Also begin of season so not too many boats on the dive spots. We dived Elephant Head and West of Eden both great. The boat offers comfort and space for everyone, they take maximum of 25 divers and 10 snorkelers and everyone can easily find a place to sit and relax enjoying the two hours and 30 minutes ride to Similan. Air-con saloon with table, upper deck with mats and sun chairs. The dive deck offer space enough for divers and guides. A good fresh breakfast and lunch cooked on board plus after the last dives a sandwich buffet is available with fresh fruit too.

Next day the boat was scheduled to dive sites that allow easy access to the beaches of Island number 4. This is perfect for a family trip to Similan and to discover the great reefs there. Also good for groups or couples with divers and non divers or just all non divers. The boat has a tender boat that takes the people on the beach on beautiful Honeymoon bay. A snorkeling guide will show the great reef that is just in front of white sand beach. The vegetation on the island offers a great shelter from sun and on the other side there is the rangers station with facilities. After pick up the divers from first dive everyone back on boat for lunch. Second dive at East of Eden. Diving on this site is very good but snorkeling is amazing great the tender boat will assist the non divers. Back on boat and a relaxing trip to the mainland.

Now I can really compare the different ways to dive the Similans. Surely Liveaboard is still the best option and for sure the only good option to dive Richelieu Rock and Koh Tachai as well.

For those who love Liveaboard trips, but like flexibility in departure we suggest South Siam III and South Siam IV. The first does Similan and Koh Bon while the second, with a minimum of three days stay, allows diving at Richelieu Rock and Koh Tachai. These boats guest also day trippers from Khao Lak and Phuket. Good service and great fun for snorkeler and non divers.

If a day trip is your option then you can choose between speed boat transfer to a main boat in Similan or traditional diving boats. My suggestion is the traditional diving boat, the day out will be a bit longer but more comfortable and more fun. Speedboat run fast but offer limited space inside, small or no toilette and no space at all to relax. With small wave the trip will be longer and even less comfortable. The traditional boat offer space to read a book, chat with your friends, have a nap or enjoy compulsory sandwiches and your beer (soft drinks are free of charge but beers not). Surely will take more to come back but this is holiday why rush and get stressed, take it easy for another great easy day Thailand diving.

The day out on M/V Pinyo is great if your group is a mix of divers, non divers and snorkeler, just book everyone on Saturdays for an unforgettable day.

We can organize your holiday in Khao Lak. We work with a few selected hotels that we personally know, two are located in Khao Lak main center, one down the beach, the Ocean Breeze and one aon the on Hill side, the Palm Hill. Then we offer a good guest house just outside the most touristy area the Khao Lak City Hotel that is 7 KM from main center and just 2 from Bang Niang Beach.

Visit a friend in Koh Samui

This was the chance to stay in Koh Samui for a few days and see what’s real about the different weather conditions you find in Samui and Phuket.

So I left rainy and stormy Phuket in middle of September with a daily morning flight from Bangkok Airways, that connects the two resort islands. The daily flights make it very easy to get from Phuket to Samui. In less than one hour, ten minutes earlier the scheduled time, I was in the beautiful Samui airport. I was surprised that the weather was really good with sun shine and only some clouds, no wind and almost flat see, and we were at end of Samui high season.

Phuket high season starts and Samui is in off season. This is the winning combination that makes Thailand a year round destination. It is a fact that the best time to visit Samui is from February to end of September, while Phuket offers the best from November to end of April and good weather in July and August too. Clear form this that October is most rainy months in Thailand and can rain every where. These are basic indication and luckily nature can’t be controlled so low season many time are good for rates and weather.

Once in Samui it is easy to move around. You find there is one main ring road that runs all around the island and one that connects Chaweng to Bo Phut. The road is just bit more than 50 Km, using a scooter it will take about one and half hour to make it all around. So I took my friend’s scooter and just went down to Chaweng to have a quick look.

Staying in Koh Samui you will understand soon that all action and life is on the East Coast, where you can go from Big Buddha beach down to Lamai and further south to look for beaches and nice places where spend your vacation easy days. Choosing a beach really depends on what the person is looking for.

Chaweng Beach has night life, a lot of restaurants for dining out, pubs, bars and shopping, and surely also the most jammed road on the island. Find a place to park even with a motorbike is difficult. Best solution and easiest way is to use the local pick up (Songteaw) that run all day and night in Chaweng Beach for a small fee. For just 20 Thai baht you can jump in and out at any place.

Lamai Beach is the second most important tourist area on Samui Island and offers a different style, more relaxed and less eclectic. Here you find small guest houses and medium sized hotels on the beach or on the cliff just behind. Staying in Lamai enjoying your holiday will pass slowly and you will release all stress. Here I have been to see the Varinda House. I think its a great to stay. It's built on the cliff of Lamai and the swimming pool is its edge - a real infinitive horizon pool. The staff is very friendly and you find a really family atmosphere.

The others beaches on Samui are smaller centers and the west coats is the commercial harbor of Samui. You only go there if need to take a ferry to mainland or wait for a delivery from the mainland.

You find plenty of hotels in Samui for all budgets and needs. I was staying in a private house in a small villa complex overlooking the North Bay and Koh Phangan Island. Staying in a Villa is a good solution if planning a long stay or like more privacy. During my visit I went to see some hotels and selected the best to offer for our holidays packages in Koh Samui.

The best way to move around is riding a bike. But you need to be very carefully and drive slowly. Samui offers a freedom life style, so nobody will ask you to wear a helmet, but almost everyone drives careless which makes the roads the only real dangerous thing in Koh Samui.

Taxi meters are available but the meter doesn’t work, looks like they all broken. So agree the fare before you get on the taxi, remember that they all work together so bargain is very limited and it also depends on your way to deal and sympathy. I enjoyed the motorbike, but remember to stop when it's raining because the roads will flood quickly. Stop, have a beer and go again when condition are OK.

During my stay i decided to go diving in Samui. So I booked a diving day trip out to Chumporn Pinnacle and Koh Tao. This one of the activity available here and many companies offer day trips and courses. I booked with Coral Grand divers and next morning at 7:30 I was at the dive center, ready to explore Samui's underwater world. A speed boat (all diving excursion are with speed boats) took us in about 1 hour and 30 minutes on top of Chumporn Pinnacle. I found excellent diving conditions with visibility over 30 meters, plenty of fish life all around us and beautiful corals. Then lunch in Koh Tao – Mango bay and second dive on local reef in Koh Tao. The reef is shallow here and visibility not great so was a god dive but nothing really exciting compared to the dive in the morning.

In Samui there are many things to do, from diving and snorkeling around the islands to elephant trekking on the central mountain. Sightseeing to Koh Phangan and nearby National Parks or all normal stuff during an holiday on a tropical island. You also can just enjoy the relaxed life style and indulge yourself on the beach all day just doing nothing and taking life easy.

To close my report I like to compare a bit Samui and Phuket. The 2 islands are rivals on the Thailand tourism market but also complementary. I believe it is worth try to visit both of them during a holiday in Thailand and then decided for the next time where to stay longer.

How to get there – Easy for both specially by airplane, Phuket airport offers many more flights while Samui has the most beautiful airport probably on the world.

Dimension – surely Phuket wins here and this means more people and more traffic, so from airport to your hotel can take up to one hour, while in Samui never more than 30 minutes. Surprising for the same fare.

Things to do – Koh Samui is smaller but is surrounded by many other islands and every day you can go to a different one. Follow the link for more about Samui Tours.
Phuket offers easy access to famous Phi Phi Islands, Similan islands, Phang Nga Bay and great islands on the south. Activity are similar on both places but Phuket's position allows more. Night life and shopping are surely unbeatable in Phuket. Samui is more relaxed and tranquil.

The Sea – Samui clearly on 2nd position as the Gulf of Thailand is a close small sea that collects big rivers such as the Mekong and the sea is not very clear. Phuket is open to the Andaman sea so the Indian Ocean with blue waters and spectacular reefs.

Weather – as said they are complementary with Phuket high season from November to April and offering good condition in July and heavy rains only in October. While Samui high season runs from February to September with heavy rains from October to December

Everyone can find pro and cons for both but is great to have them in the same country so visit them both they have different souls.

Many times during your holiday you will hear “same, same but different”. Which is true.

Birthday of HM Queen Sirikit

12. August 2009 - Thailand is celebrating the birthday of HM Queen Sirikit, the world’s longest serving consort of a monarch, who celebrated her 77^th birthday yesterday.

HM Queen Sirikit was born in 1932 and was married to HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej on April 28, 1950, only a week before the coronation of King Bhumibol.

Queen Sirikit also bears the title Queen Regent of Thailand, bestowed upon her after she served as Regent while King Bhumibol undertook a period of service as a Buddhist monk.

She is known for her charity work, which includes serving as honorary President of the Thai Red Cross.

Queen Sirikit received the UNICEF Recognition Award and the UNIFEM Award of Excellence in 1992 in recognition of her work fostering the role of Thai women.

August 12 is also Mothers Day in Thailand and a public holiday.

Fino a quindici anni fa il Sud Est Asaiatico era una meta per pochi, distante da noi sia fisicamente che culturalmente. Al giorno d’oggi I collegamenti aerie sono divenatti frequentissimi e a costi accessibili. Questo a avvicinato Est e Ovest consentendo a tutti di conoscere e scoprire luoghi e culture distanti.

Tra le varie destinazioni quella che si e’ affermata con piu successo e’ la Thailandia, probabilmente la posizione centrale, il fatto che si “stende” nel Mar delle Andamane e nel Mar Cinese Meridionale, una cultura basata sull’ospitalita e gentilezza, ottima cucina e scarsa deliquenza, ne hanno fatto una meta ambita e frequentatissima.

La Thailandia si puo facilmente paragonare alla Bella Italia che tra gli anni cinquanta e sessanta hanno reso la nostra nazione famosa e frequentata dai turisti di tutto il mondo. Il motto della Thailandia e’ “il paese del sorriso - the land of smile”. Facilissimo poi muoversi in Thailandia. I voli interni in Thailandia sono frequenti e a ottimi prezzi, il servizio a bordo sempre a livelli decisamente ottimi. Per chi vuole risparmiare e godersi il paesaggio il sitema di trasporto con autobus in Thailandia e’ ben organizzto ed efficiente. Verso le destinazioni piu’ rinomate come Phuket e Chiang Mai ci sono sono autobus di prima classe da 24 posti. Oppure in treno, Viaggiare in treno in Thailandia richiede pero tempo e pazienza, le ferrovie non sono modernissime ma sicuramente a buon mercato. Inoltre esistono linee che meritano parte della vacanza come ad esempio la ferrovia sul fiume Kwai – The Death Railway – la ferrovia morta, sia perche costruita dai prigionieri di Guerra, sia perche arriva fino alle cascate di Say Yok Noi e da li e’ interrotta.

Una volta in Thailandia troverete sorprendente la disponobilta della gente e l’ospitalita. Il servizio offero ai turisti e’ davvero ottimo basta essere gentili e calmi. Questi sono i due punti principali per fare una vacanza in Thailadia in tutto relax, anche in situazioni che possono far perdere la calma cercate di essere ragionevoli, sopratutto valutate se vale la pena fare una scenata oppure guardare al problem con una diversa prospettiva. Sfuriate, scenate e urla sono considerate atti di maleducazione, non otterrano alcun risultato e la gente continuera a guardarvi sorridendo. Mettere in imbarazzo qualcuno davanti ad altri e’ imperdonabile e puo condurre ad azioni spiacevoli. Sopratutto quando si ha a che fare con la Polizia o qualcuno che chiramente e’ piu importante di noi la calma e il sorriso sono d’obbligo. Insomma con un po di filosofia anche la situazione piu critica trovera una soluzione o quantomeno non si aggravera.

Le regole di comportamento che ci siapsetta da un turista sono poche, gentilezza, vesitire in modo libero ma non osceno, non alzare la voce o fare sfuriate inutili, rispettare I luogi scari e sopratutto il Re e la Famiglia Reale. Le effusioni in pubblico sono poco apprezzate seppur nessuno punter ail dito. Mano nella man ova piu che bene, un abbraccio anche, baciarsi, meglio in private. Sopratutto ricordate che i baci tra sconosciuti non sono una pratica e qualcuno potrebbe imbarazzarsi, una stretta di man ova piu che bene. Il modo in cui i Thaiandesi si salutano e’ semplice congiungono le mani sotto il mento e chinano la testa sorridendo– Wai in Thailandese -. Non servono gesti troppo estremi tipo le mani giunte sopra la fronte o inchini esagerati. Va benissimo anche solo un bel sorriso.

La cucina Thailandese e’ fresca e variegata ed e’ un altra aspetto che accomuna l’Italia e la Thailandia, lasciatevi convincere non tutto e’ super piccante come si crede, m tutto e’ cucinato fresco e I condimenti leggeri risultano ben digeribili. L’aggiunta di condimenti quail, zucchero, peperoncino e aceto sono lasciati alla discrezione di chi mangia per cui provate e troverete le quantita giuste. Il sale non e’ usato per cucinare o per condire il sostituto e’ salsa di pesce – Naam Pla -, dal gusto e odore decisi, per cui consiglio poco alla volta fino a trovare la dose giusta. I fritti non sono fritti, in Thailandese la parola – Pad – viene tradotta in Inglese con “fried” e quindi in Italiano fritto. E’ un errore iquanto in Inglese manca il vocabolo, infatti –pad- significa slatato in padella per cui il – Khao Pad – che in Ingelse dievnta “fried rice” e’ invece un ottimo piatto leggero e che tutti aprrezzano, si tratta di riso bollito saltato in padella con verdure, solitamente un uovo e poi la pietanza che preferite, mollushci, maiale, pollo, pesce o semplicemente verdure. La verdure e’ onnipresente, fresca o appena saltata. Per mangaire fritto bisogna passare ai piatti che hanno un nome che inizia con –Tod- in questo caso il pesce o latra pietanza sono fritti in olio vegetalead altissima temperatura, simili ai nostri fritti misti oppure cotolette. Il fritto pero risulta molto leggero e non unto proprio perche l’olio e’ a temperature elevatissima. Frutta ovunque sia fresca che frullata o in granatina. Insomma lascetevi tentare senza paure e remore. Ma non vi preoccupate dopo la cuina Thailandese la piu diffusa e’ quella Italiana, ci sono ristoranti e pizzeria ovunque anche nelle cittadine piu remote e sperdute. Consiglio di evitare il vino, carissimo e mal conservato meglio birra e meglio se locale, Birra Singha , Birra Chang e Birra Leo sono le piu diffuse,la prima e’ piu leggera.

La vacanza in Thailandia puo spaziare dal trkking in montagna all’ozio sulle spiagge delle isole. Rinomato e accesibile tutto l’anno il diving in Thailandia e’ al top nel mondo sia per la facilita che la bellezza dei fondali per non dimenticare gli squali balena. Oppure godersi una vacanza in villa, le numerose operazioni immobiliari a Phuket e Samui hanno permesso di prtare ad un livello altissimo l’offerta di proprieta che possono essere affittate. Gli affitti per lunghi periodi o soggiorni di pochi giorni possono arrivare ad includere sia il personale che auto e anche cibo.

Rinomatissimi sono i luoghi di divertimento e svago quali Patong sull’Isola di Phuket o Patpong a Bangkok oppure Pattaya dove la vita notturna e’ la caratteristica principale. Inoltre le pazze feste per la luna piena – Full moon Party- sull’Isola di Pang Ngan. Incredibile poi trovare spiagge tranquille e bellissime giusto a pochi kilometri dai centri piu gettonati.

Da non disdegnare le citta a Nord, Ciang Mai e Ciang Rai, Ayuttaya vicino a Bangkok o I grandi e spettacolari Parchi nazionali come Khao Yai, Erawann waterfalls, e sicruamente el Similan Island.

Le isole piu piccole con al loro atmosfera di oriente da scoprire Koh Lipe all’estremo sud e Koh Ciang vicino al confine con al Cambogia. Oppure veri e propri paradisi che pochi vanno a visitare come Koh Rock poco a sud di Koh. Lanta.

I fiumi come il magico Mekong che puo essere anche visitato in battello o la valle del Fiume Kwai, con al famosa ferrovia e gli alberghi galleggianti dove si possono passare giorni fantastici, fino alle gite in moto o biciletta, da Bangkok al Passo delle tre Pagode passando da Say Yok.

Insomma proprio tutto per tutti dallo soprt, al dolce far niente, dalla notte brava ai paradisi nascosti.

L’importante e’ portarsi bagangli leggeri e vestiti comodi, non servono vestiti complicati o capi ricercati lo stile e’ informale e tranquillo. Inoltre lo shopping in Thailandia e’ rinomato a livello momdiale e divertetnte, dai grandi centri commerciali di Bangkok, Phuket e Pattaya, ai mercatini e bancarelle dove trattare il prezzo e’ d’obbligo.

Il cilma e’ tropicale e come dicono i Thailandesi puo fare caldo oppure piu caldo, le piogge regulate dai Monsoni sono abbondanti tra giugno e settembre e praticamente inesistenti tra Novembre e marzo. Una particolarita data dalla conformazione della Thailandia e’ che nel Golfo e’ consigliabile soggiornare tra Giugno e settembre mantra la costa ovest sul mar delle Andamane d ail meglio tra novembre e maggio. Tra marzo e maggio la temperatura sale toccando i massimi verso meta aprile quando e’ anche capodanno Thailandese.

La differenza tra il Golfo di Thailandia e la costa del Mar delle Andamane e’ dovuta al vento. Infatti durante il monsone asciutto in inverno, la costa ovest (Mar delle Andamane) offre condizioni perfette con mare piatto, cielo sereno e piogge scarsissime, da meta gennaio poi il veto cessa totalmente, fino meta gennaio il mattino soffia forte da est. Mentre il Golfo resta esposta al monsone con vento forte e qualche pioggia in piu. In estate il Monsone giar e si caric di umidita dal mare, la costa Ovest e’ esposta la vento e a poigge piu frequenti mentre il Golfo offre mare calmo e un po meno pioggia. Ricordate che il periodo in ciu si concentrano le piogge monsoniche va da meta settembre ai primi di novembre e vale per tutta la Thailandia.

Il sitema ospedaliero e’ buono e le strutture private ottime, meglio viaggiare con una assicurazione per ogni evenienza. Non sono richieste vaccinazioni o trattamenti, la malaria e’ scarsissima e si rischia solo se si passano molti giorni nella giungla fitta. Un buon repellente e abiti leggeri ma che coprono tutto il corpo fanno di piu che qualsiasi medicina. Il cibo e’ fresco e pulito scelgiete ristornati molto frequentati cosi sarete sciuri che e ‘ fresco, mangiare nei piccolo ristorantini in strada fa aprte della viat quotidiana per cui sicuro e senza rischi, l’acqua e’ facile da reperire in bottiglietta, I minimarkrt 7/11 o family mart sono ovunque e aperti 24 ore, ovunque si trovano minimrket locali sempre aperti e disponibili e che vendono bibite e acqua in bottiglia.

In conclusione la Thailandia e facile da girare, con una deliquenza pressoche inesistente, prezzi e costo della vita bassi, diveretente e offer una moltitudine di cose da afre e vedere. Buddhist Lent Day (Khao Pansa) - As the seasonal monsoon rains descend over the kingdom, it marks the beginning of the Buddhist "rain retreat" and the Buddhist Lent, or "Phansa", during which all Buddhist monks retreat to the temples. This is also an auspicious time for Buddhist ordinations as it marks a period of spiritual renewal.

Known as "Khao Phansa", the Buddhist Lent is a time devoted to study and meditation. Buddhist monks remain within the temple grounds and do not venture out for a period of three months starting from the first day of the waning moon of the eighth lunar month (in July) to the fifteenth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh lunar month (in October). In former times, this is done to prevent monks from trampling upon rice paddies when they venture out to receive offerings from the villagers.

Buddhism, Buddhist traditions and beliefs are central forces that shape the local way of life and give rise to various festivals of religious origin which have been observed for generations. For example, the majority of the Buddhist ordinations take place during the Buddhist Lent when young novices enter the monkhood. Villagers also actively engage in merit-making during this period. Offerings consisting of an assortment of savoury dishes and sweets as well as items for daily use are offered to monks. Items that provide light such as candles, lanterns and lamp oil are deemed to be particularly important offerings as it is believed that they provide monks with illumination physically and spiritually.

Many of these traditions have evolved into full-scale festivals featured in the Buddhist calendar and the kingdom's official calendar of festivals and events such as "The Candle Festival" of Ubon Ratchathani province, which features a procession of ornately-carved beeswax candles of various shapes and sizes, and the "Tak Bat Dok Mai" floral offering merit-making ritual that is unique to Saraburi province.

Asarnha Bucha means paying homage and worshiping on the day identified according to the Lunar calendar during the eighth month. In the Pali language, ‘Asanha’ is the name of the eighth month.

In Thailand, Asarnha Bucha Day (Asanha Puja Day) is public holiday. This day is particularly one of the most sacred days in Buddhism. It is a Buddhist festival which typically takes place in July, on the fifteenth day of the waxing moon of the eighth lunar month. It commemorates the day on which Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon called “the Dhammachakapavattana Sutta” to his first five chief disciples at the Deer Park in Benares more than two thousand five hundred years ago.
In the Buddha’s first sermon, there are mainly four great truths which lead to Nirvana
and are the foundation doctrines of Buddhism:

Sorrow- All things are a source of suffering from the constant cycle of birth, disease, old age and death.
Cause of sorrow- Desire or the inability to obtain what one desires is the cause of suffering resulting from cause and effect.
Cessation of sorrow- Freedom from suffering can be obtained after the complete cessation of desire.
Paths to the cessation of sorrow- The last of the Four Noble Truths is the Middle Way or the path between extremes of asceticism and indulgence leading to the eliminating of desire. The Eight-Fold Path consists of possessing the correct: Views, Resolve, Speech, Conduct, Livelihood, Effort, Mindfulness, and Meditation (or Concentration).

One of the Buddha’s first five disciples asked for being a monk. Therefore, the day also marks the beginning of the worship of the Triple Gems. That is, this day is sacred because it deals with the Lord Buddha (Buddha), His Teachings (Dharma), and His Disciples (Sangha). Normally, Asarnha Bucha Day happens one day just before the Buddhist Lent Day; that is, the day following Asarnha Bucha Day is the Buddhist Lent Day, which is known in Thailand as Wan Khao Pansa.

In this holy day, Buddhists all over the country observe the day by presenting offerings to the monks (to make merit), listening to the sermons, and performing ritual prayers. In addition, there are many activities in the family during this holiday such as cleaning the house and setting up an altar for religious ceremonies. Family members sometimes discuss problems in the family by taking the middle way as a guiding principle to abstain from sin and reduce the way of ruin. Also, they practice the Dharma in the temple, observe the precepts, pray to the triple gem, listen to the sermons and join a candle procession around the temple. For the candle procession, several institutions like schools and universities, including public and private organizations organize a colorful candle procession leading to a temple where the offering of the candles will be made. In the evening, the Wientian ritual ceremony takes place in Buddhist temples around the country. Many people go to nearby temples bringing candles, flowers, and joss sticks completing three trips walking around the temple area sacred grounds.

Thailand is considered to be the first country of all the Buddhist countries which establishes the observance of Asarnha Bucha Day. The religious day is declared to be a Buddhist public holiday in Thailand up to the present time.

Immersioni Thailandia

Parlando di Thailandia non puo trascurare la parte della vacanza che riguarda le immersioni. Infatti il diving in Thailadia merita la sua posizione nella top ten mondiale per siti di immersione.

L'acqua calda, tra 27 e 30 gradi, visibilit? fin oltre venti metri, condizioni facili e ottimamente organizzazione. Il corallo ben conservato e una gra quantita di pesci dai piccolo Neo agli squali balena.

I siti principali e migliori sono alle Isole Similan (aperte da Novembre a fine Aprile) e l'arcipelago delle Phi Phi entrambe accessibili da Phuket.

Le immersioni si fanno sia in giornata, con programmi di due o tre immersioni, sia con pernottamenti (due giorni e una notte) che includono la sistemazione in hotel o a bordo.
Inoltre da Phuket partono e fanno base le operazioni per le crociere diving alle Isole Similan.
L’arcipelago (nove Isole) e’ una area protetta cosi come quella di Koh Bon e Koh Tachai e poi Surin e Richelieu Rock.

Sono Parchi Nazionali aperti da Novembre a fine Aprile. Le immersioni si fanno con crociere diving (Liveaboard), e servono almeno quattro giorni e quattro notti per visitare sia le Similan che Richelieu Rock.

Il periodo migliore per le immersioni va da febbraio a fine arpile durante la stagione asciutta e fresca (Novembre - Aprile) le immersion sono sempre di nuon livello, facile e frequenti gli incontri con Manta e Squali Balena, ottima la vita di barriera e la conservazione dei coralli.
Un altra zona conusicta per le immersioni e’ il Golfo di Thailadia, la zona di Koh Samui con Koh Tao e il pinnacolo di Chumpon. Meno attraenti i coralli ma sempre possible incontrare squali balena. Inoltre questa parte offre un atmosfera piu semplice di Phuket, sopratutto Koh Tao, molto raccolta con la sua vita da isola tropicale. Le immersioni si fanno in giornata con motoscafi (un po piu cari) per I siti piu lontani. Anche qui le condizioni sono ottime, acqua sempre calda, poca correntee buona organizzazione.

Scoperta negli ultimi anni poi Koh Lipe sul confime a sud con la Malesia, qualche sacificio in piu per raggiungere l’Isola (da Krabi a Satun poi il traghetto), ma ilsacrificio vale. Vita tranquilla e semplice, buoni i servizi. Le immersioni non offrono molto ma lo spettacolo sopra il pelo dell’acqua con isole coperte di vegetazione e cicondate da spiagge deserte e’ davvero unico.
Ovunque l’organizzazione, le facili condizioni, il clima favorevole e il servizio offerto rendono le uscite diving piacevoli anche per chi non fa immersioni ma vuole passare una bella e facile giornata in barca visitando luoghi altrimenti non accessibili.

Visakha Bucha Day

Visakha Puja Day marks the three important incidents in the life of Buddha on the same day; The full moon of the sixth lunar month.

The three significant separate event are :

Buddha's Birth - Buddha was born into a royal warrior clan in the Lumbini Garden, in an area of Northern India known today as Nepal) In the morning of the Vesak full moon day, 80 years before the Buddhist Era. He was named Siddhattha five days after his birth.

Enlightenment of Buddha - While sitting under the Bodhi tree, he found his answer and attained the enlightenment at the age of 35 years at Uruvelasenanigama subdistrict, Magadha state, (nowadays, located in the area of Buddha Kaya, Bihar State, India), on Wednesday, the Vesak full moon day, the zodiac of the cock, forty five years before the Buddhist Era.

The Nibbana - Buddha passed away on Tuesday, the Vesak full moon day in the zodiac year of the small snake under the two Sal trees in the Sala Grove of the Mallas in Kusinara, the capital of the Malla state, (nowadays located in Kusinagara of Uttrarapradesa, India) at the age of eighty years (around 2547 years ago).

Visakha Puja (Vesak) means the worship of the Buddha on the full moon day of the sixth lunar month. It usually falls in May. In the case of a year with an extra eighth lunar month--Adhikamasa (there are 13 full moons in that year)-- the Visakha Puja Day falls on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month.

Phuket also called Pearl of the South is Thailand's largest island, is 21 kilometers wide and 48 long.

To drive from the north tip of Phuket to the south takes about 1½ hour, depending on traffic.

The island located in the Andaman Sea just a short flight from Bangkok (approx 70min). Getting there

Located in the south of Thailand, on the Andaman Sea coast, Phuket International Airport has direct flights to/from Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. Flights from Bangkok with Air Asia, Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways or One-Two Go are daily, almost hourly, and take just over one hour.

From the airport you are in less than 60 minutes at most of Phukets main tourist beach resort destinations, like Patong Beach, Karon Beach or Kata Beach.

Beaches on Phuket

Kata & Karon Beaches

Only a ten minute drive from Patong Beach lays Karon Beach. Karon Beach is a beautiful; 4 kilometer white sandy beach which is rarely crowded. Karon is a good choice for a peaceful style of vacation, with fine resorts near the beach with excellent sea views on the hills overlooking the bay.

May to October has a strong undertow so need to be careful when you like to swim, so look out for warning flags. The waves at this time of year on Karon Beach can become big enough for surfing.

Located south of Karon you find Kata Beach and Kata Noi, which are both quiet beaches with clear waters and a wide choice of recreational activities.

Koh Puu, the small island off the north end of Kata Bach has a nice coral reef that is worth a few scuba dives.

Patong Beach

Patong Beach, located 15 kilometers west of Phuket Town, was once a remote island village which is today Phuket's most famous beach and one of the most developed beach resort areas on the island.

The beach of Patong is and almost 3 kilometers long, with white sand, set in a deep oval bay, surrounded by green hills.

The beach promenade is almost a solidly lined of hotels, ranging from guesthouses to luxury resorts together with restaurants, shops, super markets, banks and lots of tour operators.

Patong is the centre of nightlife activity on Phuket. The heart of it is Soi Bangla where you'll find restaurants, beer bars, discos, go-go bars and plenty of tailor shops.

Other beaches of note are Kamala, Surin, Laem Sing and Layan Beach to the north of Patong, and Naiharn and Yanui further to the south.

Weather

Phuket Islands climate is tropical and warm throughout the year. The northeast monsoon from November into March is the best time for a beach holiday with average 26 sunny days per month. This time is the High Season for the Island. December and January is Peak Season, when accommodation can be hard to findso book well in advanced.

There are two hot periods, April and May & September and October but the frequent short downpour have a wonderful cooling effect.

The southwest monsoon, from May to October, brings rain and winds to the west coast of southern Thailand. That not means that it’s not worth coming as only the month May and October having a lot of rain. June to early September is nearly as good as in high season.

Kanchanaburi – il fiume Kwai (Che)

La Thailandia e’ diventata una affermata meta turistica negli ultimi dieci anni e la maggior parte la conosce per le spiagge di Phuket e Samui, i centri commerciali di Bangkok e la vita notturna di Pattaya.

In questi ultimi anni anche il nord del paese si e’ fatto un ottima fama grazie a Ciang Mai e Ciang Rai , molto ancora resta da visitare e come per l’Italia le tante cittadine di provincia offrono occasioni uniche per le vacanze.

Una di queste e’ Kanchanaburi a 130 Km ovest di Bangokok un posto dove assaporare la filosofia di fare le cose con facilita e in relax insomma “Easy”. Dall’aeroporto di Bangkok un minivan ci ha portato sulle rive del fiume Kwai (Che) in un paio d’ore con una sosta per mangiare qulacosa per strada attraversando Bangkok. Siamo ad Aprile e’ quasi capodanno Thailandese (Song Kran) il periodo piu caldo dell’anno e si sente ci saranno 40 gradi in citta. Ma a Kanchanaburi subito un po di sollievo grazie al fiume e ai monti alle spalle della citta coperti di giungla e che segnano il confine con la Birmania.

Ci fermiamo due giorni in citta’ al Felix Resort che e’ proprio sul fiume e a pochi passi dal famoso ponte sul Fiume Kwai, parte della ferrovia costruita durante la seconda Guerra mondiale dai Giapponesi sfruttando i prigionieri di Guerra catturati in Sud Est Asiatico (Inglesi, Australiani, Americani, Francesi e Asiatici). L’hotel e’ un po datato ma ottimo l’architettura Thailandese rilassa e mette a proprio agio, la grande piscina centrale e quella piu profinda sul fiume offrono un ottimo sfogo per rinfrescarsi e i bambini nel gruppo le hanno sfruttate al Massimo. Prezzi onesti per un grad hotel e ottimo servizo, camere spaziose con tutti i comfort.

Per girare in citta siamo andati dal ponte verso il tempio e abbiamo affittato un Song Teo (pick up con il cassone coperto e due panche) che puo portare fino a una decina di persone, per 11 euro ci veniva a prendere all’hotel, andavamo a spasso e poi rientravamo all’hotel. Da notare che il ponte non e’ in centro citta ma circa tre km fuori. Cenare a Kancanaburi e’ facile, divertente e a prezzi veramente modici si mangia al ristorante con circa 3 euro a testa inclusa birra … a volonta!

Il terzo giorno siamo andati alla stazione e abbiamo preso i biglietti “classe speciale” per il treno fino alle cascate di Say Yok Noi, la nostra meta era Say Yok Yai dove staremo Quattro giorni in un resort galleggiante sul fiume.

Il viaggio in treno dura due ore e mezzo e nel bilgietto speciale sono incluse, bibite, caffe e dolcetto, la guida in inglese e un certificato di partecipazione. Il treno e’ un vecchio convoglio diesel caldo e poco comodo ma decisamente divertente il paesaggio bellissimo e dal treno lo si gode appieno. Dalla campagna di fondo valle si passa in piccoli canyons e poi si costeggia il fiume il binario e’ ancora quello originale della II Guerra mondiale ed e' impressionante vedere cosa hanno costruito a costo della vita i prigionieri. Arriviamo a Say Yok noi e con un altro Song Teo ci trasferiamo 30 KM a nord a Say Yok Yai, una barca ci attende sulla riva per trasferirci al resort, bisogna pagare l’ingresso del parco nazionale.

Il resort e’ bellissimo sono un serie di zattere su cui sono costruite le camere, tutto e’ di legno e paglia e si inquadra nella giungla circostante, qualche istruzione ai bambini su come muoversi sulle passerelle e poi tutti nella piscina galleggiante. Servizio e camere ottimi e sopratutto lo scenario fa dimenticare tutto una esprienza assolutamente da fare. Le camere sono direttamente sul fiume, una zattera comprende sei camere e nel mezzo uno spazio comune dove alla sera rilassarsi e chiaccherare niente TV e la musica va portata da casa, fantastico il lento scorrere del fiume rilassa e si porta via i pensieri. A disposizione degli ospiti ci sono delle zattere che possono essere noleggaite oppure una comune che parte tutti i pomeriggi per le cascate. Fantastico stare sotto la cascata a rinfrescarsi e poi per rientrare al resort ci si mette un giubbino di slavataggio e ci si lascia portare dalla corrente. Cibo in abbondanza che pacchia. Stando sul fiume vedrete realmente il mercato galleggiante infatti alcuni abitanti dei villaggi usano le barche come negozi galleggianti per vendere frutta, cibo e cucinare per I villeggianti che affittano le chiatte e stanno sul fiume qualche giorno.

Noleggiando un minivan si possono fare gite nella zona e una consigliata e’ fino al passo delle tre pagode al confine con la Birmania una meta turistica per Thailandesi dove i turisti starnieri sono ancora pochi, nella vicina citta di Songkla Buri si puo visitare il tempio e tantissimi i ristoranti dove pranzare i prezzi qui sono al minimo.

Dopo il relax sul fiume sempre in treno siamo tornati in citta per altri due giorni per visitare il museo dedicato ai caduti per la ferrovia e che spiega ottimamente il progetto e la storia e poi un giorno al tempio che ospita il centro di riabilitazione per animali selvatici particolarmente noto per le Tigri che passano la maggior parte del tempo libere nella grande riserva naturale. Durante le ore piu calde del giorno fanno la siesta ed e possible farsi fotografare al loro fianco con l’aiuto del personale del centro.

Ci sono anche altri posti a pochi chilometri dalla citta come le famose 7 cascate di Erawan e le rovine delle cittadelle antiche del confine Birmano, ma il tempo non era sufficiente sara per la prossima volta.

The province Kanchanaburi is Thailand´s third largest out of 76 provinces. It’s located 130 km west of Bangkok and it covers an area of 19,480 km². Approx 735,000 inhabitants are living in Kanchanaburi province which borders Myanmar (Burma) at the north-west.

Kanchanaburi town is the capitol of this province and has a population of 54,000. Kanchanaburi was originally established by King Rama I as a first line of defence against the Burmese, who might use the old invasion route through the Three Pagodas Pass on the Thai-Myanmar border. It is situated on the River Kwai and is the home of the famous Bridge on the Kwai. Every year in late November and early December the River Kwai Bridge Festival is held at the bridge to remind to the history of the Death Railway and the bombardments during World War II.

The Province itself captivates beautiful nature and friendly people with their native charm. The Major attractions include waterfalls, mountains, caves, national parks and of course River Kwai.

The unique Erawan Waterfalls are most famous waterfalls in Kanchanaburi. Seven levels set in jungle in the Erawan National Park. The falls are worth a visit and among the most beautiful falls in whole Asia.

Kanchanaburi features also 3 war museums, 2 war cemeteries, a national museum, a historical park, hot springs, a few worth to visit Thai and Chinese temples.

Bericht von Egbert S. und seinem Besuch in Kanachanaburi

Wir flogen alle mit Thai Airways von Phuket nach Bangkok. Ich blieb zwei Tage in Bangkok und wartete auf Thommy der aus Deutschland kam. Die anderen unserer Gruppe fuhren mit dem Minibus direkt weiter nach Kanchanaburi. Dort übernachteten sie 2 Tage Im Felix Resort von wo sie anschließend weiter Sai Yok fuhren.

Als unser Freund Thommy ankam fuhren wir mit einem Taxi vom Flughafen direkt in den National Park von Sai Yok mitten im Dschungel der Provinz Kanchanaburi in Nord west Thailand. Ein Wolkenbruch ging bei unserer Ankunft auf uns nieder, was unserer guten Laune jedoch nichts anhaben konnte. Ein Longtail Boot brachte uns auf dem River Kwai zu unserm Rafting Hotel "Sai Yok View Raft", welches auf dem Kwai Fluss liegt. Mitten im Urwald verbrachten wir hier 4 wunderbare Tage.

Nach dem Frühstück fuhren wir auf einem großen Ponton den Fluss entlang. Hausboote die von Longtail Booten gezogen wurden begegneten uns. Diese Hausboote kann man auch mieten und dann an einem schönen Platz ankern. An Fluss entlang sind einige wunderschöne Wasserfälle. An einen fuhren wir ran und uns erwartete eine kühle Dusche. Es hat riesigen Spaß gemacht. Dann zogen wir uns Schwimmwesten an, sprangen in den kühlen Fluss und ließen uns Kilometer weit bis zum Hotel zurück
treiben. Einmalig das muss man mitgemacht haben.

An einem anderen Tag zog uns das Longtail Boot wieder an eine seichte
Stelle, ankerte dort, und wir blieben den ganzen Tag hier. Die Kinder
hatten viel Spaß und planschten im Wasser.

Zu Essen und Trinken gab es reichlich. Ab und zu kam ein Boot vorbei und
man konnte Obst , Getränke oder alles mögliche zu essen kaufen. Am
Nachmittag holte uns das Boot wieder ab .Wir machten auch einen Ausflug zum "Drei Pagoden Pass". Das ist die Grenze zu Burma. Auf der Fahrt dorthin erwartete und eine atemberaubende Landschaft.

Die Tage vergingen zu schnell. Ich hätte noch länger bleiben können. Das war aber bestimmt nicht das letzte mal das ich hier war. Dann hieß es Abschied nehmen. Mit einem Pick Up fuhren wir zur Bahnstation. Mit dem Zug dem legendären "Death Train" fuhren wir nach Kanchanaburi. Das ist noch die Original Strecke die die Japaner mit Kriegsgefangenen gebaut haben. Am Ende der Strecke fuhren wir über die berühmte River Kwai Brücke.

Im Felix Resort verbrachten wir noch einmal 2 herrliche Tage. Ein Besuch im Museum vom Brückenbau, dem Soldatenfriedhof und dem Tigertempel stand auch noch im Programm. Das war der Ausklang einer wunderschönen Reise. Der Flieger brachte uns zurück nach Phuket.

Ich kann nur jedem empfehlen der hier nach Thailand kommt diese Reise auch zu machen. Sie ist für jeden unvergesslich.
